Re: Every member please check in here!

I was going to pm you, there are a group of suby owners that meet the last thursday of every month in the St Johns Towncenter Publix parking lot.
They usually get 30-50 there once a month.

There is another member who lives in Jax who has a 5 speed Ebony sitting in his garage, waiting on a new motor.

Re: As we approach 3000 members

Whats up people!
I'm Andy, and I've been lurking for months now, so I figured I may as well join. As the name reads, I've got a 92 Liquid Silver in rough shape. I plan on making it something I can be proud of by spring.

I purchased the car for $800 from a friend who bought it in ok condition a few years back with a bad transmission. He had the tranny rebuilt, then let it go to hell. While he was still driving it, he backed over some landscaping timbers, messing up the ground effects on one side. Also, he ran a red light and bounced of the front tire of an s-10, screwing up the front bumper, t/s, and hood and tweaking the frame. After all this, the water pump and radiater started leaking, and it was parked for about two years.

Now back to present day, I purchased the car in May, replaced water pump, timing belt & all pulleys, radiator, hoses, chewed up timing cover, and belts. Drove it once completed and all was well. The very next time I drove it, the transmission my buddy spent $3500 on to rebuild developed the 1-2 one way clutch problem others have encountered (5mt time soon).

Now for the body. I have a new hood and bumper reinforcement, and I will be taking the car to the Basney body shop Friday to have the frame pulled straight. Great people there. They gave me a great price.

And that's my story, some work done, much more to go! Sorry if it's too long.

Re: Every member please check in here!

Hello fellow SVX-fetish-people.
Lurking to I guess. I drive my svx the first time for 6 weeks, I have removed the intake manifold and changed all vaccum tubes, knock sensors and freshing up the engine harness with new wearprotection (nice) and cleaned the crankangle sensors. It runs nice and smooth now, sorry thow that the issue with sudden stalling is still there, I will read on the airflow sensor on this wonderfull network. wish me luck.

Best regards Peter Bodor

Hello Peter and you are very welcome. Nice to have you as a member.

SVX fetish people eh? Is this how we appear, or do you Swedes just think of our cars as sexual objects? You could be right.

Post up some pics about your car Peter, we would love to see it.

Also, describe your stalling problem and we may have suggestions, starting with the air sensor as you already have deduced.

Joe

Re: Every member please check in here!

Hi yall

I was a lurker for a while then decided to join a few years ago after I got my 94 Laguna blue svx. I have enjoyed the site and found all the info helpful except the one about the hood and trunk lid struts. I have tried replacing them using the replacemant parts given on the site but my hood still falls and my trunk lid still takes two men and a kid to open it. (that trunk lid is heavy to be so small)

I am a transplant to Mississippi from Calif. I work at OleMiss and I like living in Oxford MS.
Recently returned from my second Dragon meet.

I have seen this thread before but never took the time to sign in, so hear I am.

Yea is was fun, smaller group but more fun this time we got to drive the dragon fast.

Huck do you have any idea on what I should do about my air bag light?
The "air bag" light on the dash came on before I got back home and has not went off. The manual tells me to take it to the dealer. Is there something I can do to fix it or should I take it in.

Are you anywhere close to Louisville? My sister-in-law has people there and I have been wanting to visit them.

Hello Peter

i recommend spraying your airflow sensor with CRC Mass Airflow Sensor Cleaner
see if that helps your problem at all
just my 2 cents

Hey Ken,
I'm a couple hours from Lousiville...not to far..
If you get up this way, be sure to let me know, and I'll see if we can maybe meet up.

As for the Air bag light...electronics aren't my strong suit...I'd make it stop lighting up, but probably not the correct way...As my Car no longer has an airbag, I just blocked out the bulb in the cluster.....

And howdy Drew!....it's like a Dragon Re-Meet in here

Talking Re: Every member please check in here!

Ode to the Alcy,

I recently purchased my first SVX ('92 LS-L) but I've been an SVX fetishist for quite some time. My first "car" was a '72 Scout II primer gray beast, but I've been in nothing but Subarus since. I've been seen in an '88 Justy, '87 GL-10 Sedan (FWD), a '92 Legacy L sedan, and now both generations of Alcyone! I owned an '87 XT-Turbo (also in GL-10 trim) in college and that was the start of my Alcyone fixation.

So now I own the car I've wanted since I was 10 years old. I tried buying an SVX 3 times prior to this one and always had the deal fall through. And after everything I've got to say: It was worth the wait:-)

So far I've only installed the K&N filter from the broken '92 Legacy, fixed the power belt on the diver's side (had my roommate wire me a series of relays, and make me a diagram if anyone wants to see it) and ordered the nasty stereo system that this car begs for. But I've got a lot of bigger plans for this one.

My transmission is going. And I don't mind. This is my first auto, and I hope to say my last. So I'm looking forward to the manual swap, I've loved the 5mt that's been in all my previous subees but I'm waiting for someone to give me the definitive answer on why the 6mt is worth the cost. In the meantime, CLUNK, REV, CLUNK.

Seems like the rear-dif bushings are gone as well (thumps hard in reverse or slow tight turns). Got a cracked rear driver's corner lense (the turn signal part) if anyone's got a line on just that part. And mysteriously the cabin dome light is out but the bulb is fine, and all fuses are good.

Otherwise this car is my favorite thing in the world. I know: Bold statement, don't tell my girlfriend. I had a guy in a Farrari tell me in a thick accent "nice car" at a stoplight. That never happened with the Justy. So I'm looking forward to many years of happy driving, way past 200k, and the camaraderie of all fellow SVXers 'round the world.

K_Dub

PS
I promise to never post that long again. Just a little excited.

Re: Every member please check in here!

Hi, K Dub
I can't believe it. Another SVXer in the Valley. I'm in Chatsworth, and I work out of my house, so I'm home most of the time. I've had my SVX two weeks under a year now, and have seen only two others in that time. I'm keeping mine mechanically stock because I like the way it feels as a cruiser. Besides, I have two other cars that are 5-speed manual. We should try to get together.
