What brand knock sensors do you use?
Hi SVX fans,
normally I like to go OEM, but with OEM knock sensors going for ~$85 - $114 a pop, and non-OEM knock sensors are starting at ~$8 each... I'm thinking of saving some money... But I've never heard of any of the bands before? Uxcell? https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-22060-.../dp/B01MQWSU8B APDTY? https://www.amazon.com/APDTY-22060-A...dp/B01IFTFX54/ TUPARTS? https://www.amazon.com/TUPARTS-Deton.../dp/B07QPRL6SH MUCO? https://www.amazon.com/MUCO-Detonati...dp/B078X9YSQS/ AUTEX? https://www.amazon.com/AUTEX-22060AA...dp/B01AB7Y764/ (This has some reviews, although not all positive, but might be my pick if nobody has any input.) Thoughts? Have you tried a non-OEM knock sensor? Thanks! Ian. Last edited by irox; 04-20-2019 at 12:58 AM. |

Re: What band knock sensors do you use?
Most knock sensors come from China. When it came time to replace mine, I searched for ones from the US/Japan and couldn't find another source. Even OEM Subaru couldn't confirm that the part didn't originate in China. I wound up w/Ebay $5 knock sensors and haven't had a problem. If you don't want Chinese junk, ask the vendor where the part was manufactured, don't expect a part for a Japanese or any other country's car to be made in that country; China is, at the moment, to be one of the cheapest places for manufacturing car parts

Re: What band knock sensors do you use?
Thanks for all the input here.
Seems ULTRA-POWER is rockauto.com's brand for selling surplus parts (according to a post on the toyota forum [1]). This means you might get a cheap Chinese one, or a brand new OEM one (or some top brand). I see NDK.com ones on rockauto for ~$40, NDK at least have a website. Also STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS, which sell two, the more expensive of which is marked JECS which appears be a Japanese company [2] partly related to Hitachi and Bosch. Although seems that Japanese companies are manufacturing in China these days. I might toss a coin, heads: I'll buy 4 ULTRA-POWER sensors and see what I get. Tales: I'll buy 2 NDK.... Cheers! Ian. Re: What band knock sensors do you use?
I tend to stick with OEM for engine sensors, unless the community recommends a different supplier for a specific reason. The engine is too important of a component, in my mind, to worry about saving a few dollars on.

Re: What band knock sensors do you use?
I found some (supposedly) Genuine Subaru knock sensors on ebay for $19 each on ebay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/22060-AA031...5/223423718282 Although, this could just be the $8 sensor with a fake Subaru label on the bag. We'll see, I'm probably over thinking this anyway. Cheers, Ian. |

Re: What band knock sensors do you use?
Well, I got my new knock sensors the other week. They definitely appear to be new. But I'm skeptical that they are Genuine Subaru, it looks like the label was applied to the bag after it was stuffed into a small generic white box. Most of the other Subaru parts I've received had labels neatly applied to the plastic bag.
Anyway, I'm sure they will work, and at least I didn't spend $114 a piece on fake parts (they where only ~$19 each). Cheers, Ian. |
