Good lord...so what this boils down to is that someone's girlfriend ended up with a crapped out SVX???
And...strangely enough....because of this unfortunate circumstance and some questionable Subaru horror stories, we should recognize the superiority of domestic Detroit iron? All on a dedicated SVX site?

I'll get you that article...I just need a scanner. I could type the whole thing up right now, but I know you wouldn't believe me. If you want I could give you a link to some random thrid party tester that says American cars are better...but then you'd discount it as being biased. Yet there have been many studies that show CR is extremely biased towards foreign carmakers. In fact, i'm going to show you one of those too. As I have said many times before, I refuse to spend more than 5 minutes at a time on this site...what is said here has no bearing on what happens in the real world anyway. So you're just going to have to wait...if it's really that important to you, I think maybe you need to find a hobby or go for a ride or something. Quote:
The only European car maker that i can think of that rates above GM in quality is BMW. You can even include the limited edition Ferrari, Porsche and Lambo. They still don't make it. They have an image so everyone believes that they are just such superior cars...ask anyone who owns any of those cars they'll tell you different. Yeah they are in the shop much less but remember they only get driven like 2000 miles a year. Go into the larger companies - everyone knows about Jaguar, Audi is approximately equal to VW (Audi's ARE rebadged VWs after all) and Mercedes Benz could very well be the worst of them all. So who's left? I'm sure i missed someone...so i'm open to suggestions. Quote:
But just like the foreign car guys say that American car guys are worried that the japanese or whoever are going to take over the car market...you have to remember that we are the contenders...we've been on top for longer than most of us have been alive...we just want to make sure that these great cars at least get the respect they deserve. You don't have to like them, just make sure you know something about what you are talking about when you try to say that they are of poor quality compared to Japanese model X. Usually you are wrong. Ok man, you can live in your deluded little world as much as you want to. Please don't try to push your BS on us, cause obviously we're not taking it. I am not a domestic hater by any means, I looked into buying a Trans Am GTA this summer, but it never worked out. I know (as you and the other ignorant people just like you don't seem to) that most GM cars are notorious for being pieces of ****. Theres a reason Toyotas are selling better, and its not cause theyre cheaper. I believe Toyotas became the number 1 brand sold in the US last year, but don't quote me on that. I don't hate domestics by any means though. I just am not too keen on buying most of them.

Actually i'm just playin with ya it was probably a GL wagon which is the exact same thing as a Loyale they just didnt call it a Loyale till 1990. I kinda figured you meant 88 when ya said the interior was fallin apart. Both of mine are currently experiencing interior rot.

i believe in America, but when i'm spending in excess of $10,000 on a car, i like to get the best my money can buy in terms of quality, performance, and looks. i served in the military, so i think i've done my patriotic duty. i hope you use an American made computer, TV, VCR, and stereo, too, because otherwise you'd be downright un-American! sure, i'd love to have a car with cheap-ass parts that you can buy anywhere. why do i pay more for harder to come by parts? i guess i'm just an idiot. oh wait, its because i'd rather spend my time driving my car than replacing cheap parts every weekend. i've been there, done that. i've owned more domestic cars than imports, and i wish i would have tried imports a lot sooner. i may not have the pride of driving a machine built in the country i love, but i do have the pride in knowing i didn't throw my money away on another rattle trap.

My point is now and always has been...for each American lemon, there's a Japanese and European lemon. 15 years ago there was certainly a quality difference. Japan got it's act together alot quicker than america. But these days it's a toss up...and that being the case, why should i pay so much more for a car that's only going to cost me more to repair in the future (assuming i like my choices)? |

yes, they are priced out of reach. show me a comparable domestic that has AWD and the performance of a WRX for less than $24,000. that's what i thought.

I do not understand your point with the discussion. According to your profile, you own a 92 SVX. The last time I checked it is a Japanese car. The other unclear point is why are you arguing against imports when that is the kind of site THIS is. If you look at the top of the page, it gives you the name of the site. So, are you just wanting to argue for the fun of it or what. Think about it. Thanks.

Earl, I just have a question for ya.... You have 5 (FIVE) SVX's right??? howmany major problems have you had with them and what are the current mileages on your cars??? This should straighten things out for us... Since I have never asked you about your SVX's before I am kinda hoping that you'll tell me no problems but lets see what you say..... I'm leaning twards No problems though... Subaru's are awesome cars and that's gonna be all that I buy from now on!!! I can't believe that I was looking at a Land Rover the last time I was in Australia!!!

And don't presume to question my patriotism just because I say Japanese cars are more reliable, and that I have evidence to support it. This is the typical 'last resort' argument of the domestic car fan. Being patriotic doesn't mean that I will buy an American product at any cost. Bear with me for a minute, okay, man? If the American product doesn't suit my needs, or is inferior, why should I buy it? If an American product is inferior, what am I teaching the company that produces it if I buy it just because it's American? I'm teaching them that they can get away with producing crap and that they don't need to make competitive products. So, hear this: I will buy an American car when I see proof that they are just as reliable as Japanese cars, when I can verify that proof and when they fit my needs. Example (but sort of in reverse): I used to own a 1991 Escort wagon. It was a hell of a little car and served me (and other members of my family) flawlessly. Guess what? It's on the CR 'best used cars' list. And I love my country. Don't make the mistake of questioning that again.

his girlfriend owns a beat-to-hell moneypit SVX (that a reasonable person would have unloaded a long time ago.) therefore imports are inferior to domestics. he comes on here to get technical info to fix his girlfriend's trashed SVX, bash imports, and extol the virtues of Pontiacs. now you don't have to read the whole thread. it has been civilized so far - no Rob-style namecalling or immaturity (i think?) we're being good.
