Opinions on Amsoil

I am currently using amsoil oil and oil filters on both my svx's. Reason i switched to amsoil is that i've heard nothing but terrific things about their products. Even though it is synthetic i still change the oil every 3k miles. Anyone here using this product? Opinions? Thanks, chris

Let me preface by saying that I've never used synthetics. I really see no reason, if you change your oil at 3k -- first of all, it's much sooner than recommended by the manufacturer and secondly, at 3k oil does not have time to suffer significant breakdown. Perhaps, if you live in extreme conditions and you are "iffy" about changing your oil, synthetics MAY be advantageous, however, dead dinosaurs are your best bet and you're not draining the extra money into your drain pan every 3k.

Personally, I've used nothing but Castrol GT in my cars since 1984. Am I convinced that the extra money is worth the Castrol brand. No, not really. But, I drive my cars 'til the wheels go square, and my SVX, which I've driven almost daily (save the stints in the tranny shop) since August '98, and continue to drive daily, is getting ready to click over to 270K and still runs like a striped a$$ed ape. So, if that's any testiment...

i far as I'm concerned, and this is the general consensus of the industry, oil is oil is oil is oil. just change it at 3000 and you will be fine.

Amsoil has performed well in independent tests in the past, and I've never had any issues with it in any performance cars I've owned. But in a stock SVX, I don't think the performance justifies the cost.

I haven't tried amsoil in my svx yet, but i have it in my jeep. Try the power foam you will like that. My truck would stall all the time, so i used the foam in it to try it out, and now it nevers stalls.

Yeah i dunno either, i mean i can honestly say that i haven't noticed a difference from the standard oil to switching to synthetic. If nothing else it gives me piece of mind that i am using an alleged superior product. Also is the amsoil filter any better than the stock?
