Gift ideas for car guy?

My in-laws are visiting this Thursday. My father-in-law's birthday was a couple weeks ago, but my wife and I never got around to getting him something because we have no idea WHAT to get him.

He's restoring a '63 Kharmann Ghia, but doesn't get much time to work on the car. We try to get him Ghia-related things to keep his interest in the project high.

Right now he's getting ready to do some big work on restoring the bodywork. I guess he wants to keep it steel rather than go for the fiberglass parts that are available for the car. I think he's also planning on getting into some engine work soon.

The guy has a pretty decent assortment of tools, since he does a LOT of the work on his family's cars by himself. But I'm wondering what kinds of ideas some of you might have.

Get him a die-cast model of one, hopefully in the same color of his.

If anyone give me a SVX or a porche, I will be happy. I think he might be as well. How much do you want to invest in this gift?

Die-cast model

Heh...I actually already got him a die cast Ghia. But thanks.

As for the size of the investment, I dunno. Throw some options at me and I'll decide if they're over or under.

Cool

There are many books, coffee table to seriously detailed, about VW's creation (thanks, Adolph) to the present. Do an Amazon.com search. Ron.

Cubes

If he is doing engine work, a callipers would be nice, or a good micrometer is loved by all tool people.

Also, if he is buying cars or body bits, you can buy lovely devices to measure paint thickness and detect fillers. They are professional tools, so not too cheap, depends on your budget.

Thanks for everybody's help. I actually found a book that's all about rebuilding air-cooled VW engines. That, and I realized the poor guy doesn't have a creeper, so we're getting him one.

Thanks again.
