Shifting from park to a gear

Anyone know the reason why, after I shift from drive to a gear, the car just seems to sit there out of any gear? This doesnt happen all the time, but it happens enough that I can expect it (Say if i put it in park at a redlight, i know i have to get it out of park atleast five seconds before the light turns green to give it time to get back into gear). Usually I'll have to hit the gas slighty, and then the engine will rev and the car will shift into the gear and then go.

This is no big deal, since it's happened ever since I've had the car and I've experienced this lag in other vehicles. But curiousity has gotten the best of me.

That sounds like something new. Do you have the service manual? There is a trouble shooting section for the trans.

Mine does the same thing... especially into reverse. Sometimes ill put it in drive, and not thinking about it press on the gas then it will go BANG and the car will start moving. Mine has done this for nearly a year and a half.

It started shortly after my first tranny rebuild, and I told the shop about it right away. They dismissed it as a shifter linkage issue and sent me on my way.

Sounds a bit like a pressure problem. Tranny works fine otherwise?
