Unhappy Loud(for an svx) clacking upon startup?

Ok recently the svx has gone back on the road..its been about 5months, needed bearings and some TLC. Last night i cranked her over to move it across the street and noticed a clacking noise that went away after she warmed up, bieng a Z28 owner i thought to myself !!damnit!! lifters but after it went away the only thing i could think of was piston slap.....aluminum blocks tend to do that (LS1 vette's had a TSB about this). IF its piston slap then its not a problem givin the age of the car, 1994. A bad lifter is a problem and can cause worse problems down the road. Any other possibilities?? This car needs to run since my Z28 is getting Cam, heads P&P done....i need it for winter

Thanks guys

I have been told that it could be lifter. Not that the lifter is bad. It is just sticking a little and the oil needs some time to pump it up. It think it may be common for when the car sits a long time.
The good thing is that it went away.

I doubt if it's piston slap. The diametrial clearance between the piston and cylinder is about .0008 inches by design. That leaves very little room for the piston to slap.

If its sat for a while, I'd run a can of oil flush through it next oil change. I use the Gunk brand. There are other brands talked about here if you want to do a search.

Other possibility is it could be a bad oil pump.

How many miles are on the car? If its high (over 200k) i would say its the oil pump, otherwise, do what doug said with the oil flush.

Well the car has 103K miles on it, this weekend i'm gonna do some maintanance on it, plugs, etc. I'll buy a can of that flush and maybe that will work. it still does it but only right after start up, for a few minutes until it warms up. Thanks guys
