In short, yes we (The Network) own the rights to the logo and the name.

It's not about a power thing. It's about doing things correctly and in the proper order and although we have no wish to jump all over somebody for spreading the good news, if the group is using the network logo then it should have the Network's permission to use it.

As Chris already mentioned the Network has the rights to the name and the logo. Facebook is such a viral thing that there could be twenty SVX groups started up by different people. Or more.

I have no objection to it and I will join up as well, but it's better for the community if we have only one official group, least ways that is how I see it.

Joe

Re: SVXWN Facebook group

maybe I'm blind or realistically maybe i don't give a crap enough to look but I don't think I saw the "official" forum trademark.

Does the forum have the right to use the "SVX" name too from Subaru?

Realistically i think this is all petty

didnt 'the network' steal the logo from some jap thing and just put in english letters?
forgive the presumption, but ive seen the logo elsewhere, with jappy writing all over it.
did this other source steal it from you guys, or whats the story there?

Post Re: SVXWN Facebook group

Realistically it would be nice if just because you coined a phrase or name of a business etc, that it was your sole right to use it. However (not to make anyone mad, but to post real facts since I am researching just such an idea), unless you went here ( http://www.uspto.gov/# ) and filed and paid for the trademarking of your logo and "name" you have no exclusive rights to it. You have the benefit of the courtesy, from those who wish to promote the same logo and forum name, by asking your permission first (although like I said its a courtesy and not required)

If you have done the above, I do apologize and agree that you are correct. If you haven't and wish to I would strongly encourage it.

Re: SVXWN Facebook group

OK, no problem if you don't agree with it.

As I understand it when the Facebook site was put up first it used the Network's registered name and logo.

These were taken down when the lack of permission was pointed out.

I don't see the need for permission as petty, but I understand how many could see it that way. Plenty of other websites are much more structured and controlled about how the information and logos on their sites are used.

There are plenty of specialist website for cars and bikes where you can't advertise your vehicle or parts for sale unless you are a paid up member.

But not the SVXWN

Lots of websites you can't see How-tos unless you are a paid up member.

But not the SVXWN

Plenty of websites you can't post a technical request or get access to certain technical areas unless you are a paid up member.

But not the SVXWN

The fact remains that this is a privately owned website, run by enthusiasts of the SVX for enthusiasts of the SVX. Even at that a pretty small percentage of total users on this site contribute to the membership fees that go to carrying the costs associated with purchase and maintenance of servers and bandwidth used, a very substantial cost.

As I said, I'm not against the idea, I think it is excellent, but the need for permission to use the logo is in no way petty; it protects the image and identity that has been built up by all those SVX people over all those years.

Re: SVXWN Facebook group

Joe:
very thought out post sir. I understand what you are saying and I totally get your point. All I am saying is that the chain of permission could really go a lot further and eventually you are going to find someone who didn't do everything like they should have with getting permissions. While I do appreciate all that the mods do for this forum I think it is really lame to pull rank just because someone wants to help promote their favorite car web site.

Re: SVXWN Facebook group

Joe, I think you are right... About that Texas thing! I do have a lot of fun with life.

The logo thing on facebook... If it is all gone, is gone.

If it was basically copied from japs, so be it.

This form is great for me and when I wake up and get out of bed, my computer comes on, I come here to this site first. Other stuff is secondary. My first thing is trying to find someone that needs help and if I could possibly assist them, that would make my day.

The success of this form is dependent on the SVX owners that contribute to it.

When the logo was mentioned, I actually took a quick look at it... Not before.

I think it is nice to have a logo and others probably pay attention to it.

This form is major important to me! I enjoy the members and all their comments.

Facebook is mostly for the 250,000,000 folks that do not have a SVX!

We are blessed!

Keith

OMG no! I have no talent like that whatsoever. Seriously I can't even type that good. The irony of it is the fact that I hate horses so much...but that thing makes me laugh
