Fiberglass Hood with or without Scoop

Since Subaru has not been able to get me an undamaged OEM hood (been trying since April or May) I'm going to get a fiberglass one. My only problem is deciding between one without the scoop or one with. I like the looks of the one with the scoop best, but I wonder about how much of a hassle it would be in real life. For example, I can see leaves, bugs, and rain all getting into the engine compartment where I don't want them. Also, I'm curious as to what effect the extra hole in the hood has on the radiator airflow, good, bad, or no significance.

Yeah, a nice silver mesh grill in there would look sexy.

And a set of eyeballs :P (There is a guy I've seen at Subaru shows with a blue WRX with a set of eyeballs inside his hood scoop)

Re: Fiberglass Hood with or without Scoop

I've seen the fiberglass hood with and without a scoop and the scoopless one is definatly of better quality than the one with the scoop. The scoop one is flimsy.
+1 for svxfiles FG hood

Re: Fiberglass Hood with or without Scoop

class glass will do it with a scoop... that's what I'm going for, for that exact reason. I've heard the motorsport one is not good quality.

Re: Fiberglass Hood with or without Scoop

Motorsport is of fine quality.. It's just that I can't afford it, let alone the shipping.. I'd rather use Class Glass cause it's down the street from me, lol. As for the ones with scoops being flimsy? I'm not sold on that opinion since they are adding extra fiberglass to put the scoop there in the first place. Then again, I've yet to see one in person..

Re: Fiberglass Hood with or without Scoop

I'm talking about the motorsport scooped hood. It's real flimsy where the opening is and doesn't really line up at all. If I remember Class glass wil NOT do a scoop molded hood. You can get one molded in yourself or bolt one on.

Re: Fiberglass Hood with or without Scoop

Looks like I'm going with the scoopless model. I never realized the scooped hoods were such bad quality! They look so good in all the pictures I've seen. Are the scooped hoods on ebay the same as Dayle's, then.

Ebay hood = ew...

Try CLASS GLASS! You can pick out what kind of scoop you want and they'll fiberglass it in for you..

+1 you have to pick it out and ask for it, that's what tom said. and that's what bobby and I are planning on doing. his is going to be in a different location for his supercharger, mine I'm going to get just to keep my motor cooler. as far as a screen or something... I think a metal screen would look ricey as hell. maybe some sort of screen that's in line with the hood and not the edge of the scoop might be something to consider if it's really a huge problem with water and leaves and such getting in.

My thoughts exactly.. Make it so it's not visible.. I'd like to get one that's "functional" but without spending a lot of cash!

Re: Fiberglass Hood with or without Scoop

through looking at these more and more on wrx's and such, they have kind of almost a grill type blocker in there stock.

I wonder if it would be able to take a look on subaru parts or whatever and look into getting the bottom piece or whatever goes inside, if not the whole scoop from either a wrx or legacy gt.

But I have a feeling getting the legacy gt scoop by it's self might be hard/impossible because I'm not sure they sell them separate from the hood.
