probably getting fired.

hey everybody,

i just wanted to come and see what everybody thought about what is happening at my job. well anyway, i am a doorman/valet at the hilton anatole hotel here in dallas. i have had a rough couple of weeks. one shift i was 2 hours late to for simply sleeping through my alarm...(shift starts at 6 am). my bosses caught me one day when i had not shaved, strike two...
the third strike...yesterday around mid day i started getting sick very quickly, flu-like symptoms...i was at work since 6:30am and stayed until 2:30 in the afternoon, getting sicker by the minute. i was asked by my friend to cover his overnight shift starting at 10:30 that night...(he had asked me a couple days beforehand). i get to work last night and i start vomiting and becoming very dizzy, almost fainting a few times. i called a coworker that was working an event on the other side of the propertyand asked if he could come watch the driveway until ernesto (my friend that asked me to work the shift for him) could arrive.
i finished all of the paperwork, do all of the overnight billing, and just go ahead and take off.
my bosses call me about a million times today (while i was still asleep) and left me angry voice messages, cursing at me, etc. etc. etc.
keep in mind that i did not call my bosses when i was leaving the hotel (it was midnight).
should i be fired?

This.

You never leave your post without telling your boss. You shouldn't be ****ing around nowadays either. It's hard enough as it is to find work.

I know what you mean with that

Im still waiting on over a grand from my employer.

Luckily Texas Pay laws cover employees pretty well.

But yeah, I would start looking for something else.

man, that sounds rough. i would recommend finding another job that's less demanding. a job where your work is based on how well your performance is versus how well you can follow rules. there's a great job that comes to mind that you might actually qualify for. flexible hours, no dress code, no hygiene requirement, decent pay. what i recommend you do is get some cardboard, marker, and a cup...take it to a busy intersection and just stand around. i hear it pays good.

Re: probably getting fired.

The important thing to know here is what the expected procedure is in these situations. Do the "rules" say that you should have called your boss? Do the "rules" state that you have to maintain a certain level of grooming. (I'd imagine so, at a Hilton.) Etc.

You won't feel much motivated when it comes time to find another job, the act of which is also a job, except you don't get paid.

I've been on the job hunt for a few months now. With unemployment as ridiculously high as it is, try not to complain too much about a check that's not right, cos it's a check that a lot of people aren't getting.

Ha! Or you could walk around and panhandle to take a more active approach. This well-fed scruffy looking guy got me for a bunch of quarters from my ashtray today. He was a bit stinky but I felt pretty good about it afterwards. You could be the good-feeling fairy..... people give you pity money and they get a fuzzy feeling in return Damn I think I just talked MYSELF into this!

Re: probably getting fired.

A lot of firings nowadays especially with the crisis increasing more and more.

Each month Dubai is losing more than 20,000 employees and workers of them 5000 are just leaving their cars at the airport...

Shame what happened... really

Coffe shops... yeah I am. I should be getting the agreement today for finalization... If everything will be ok with it, I will resign from my current job by June this year (The time when my house rental agreement expires).

Keeping fingers crossed!

I worked a job like that before the one I currently have. Get a better job, they'll miss you more than you'll miss them. I hate it when employers have no respect for employees.
