Zoom Magazine Review
This is a review that appeared in a tuning mag here in Sydney called Zoom.
http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/user.php?Jamsvx|3297 Two things... A fellow in our little gang named Gordon (no relationship to the dealership in the article) had bought the car before the article came out and the content therein is far too detailed and specific for the author not to have trolled the net and found either this site or some of our websites...I have emailed them to get more info. Regards James

Interesting
Article James.
Does this mean that Aussie journos actually know what they are talking about? Graham will be interested in these guys when he has that huge blower bolted on. They are spot on with comparisons, naming the Z and the 3000GT. However, I think the Lexus Soarer 2.5 twin turbo is closer in ethos, even if it does not have 4wd. Joe

But it will run up to 7 if it is in Power mode and you mash the carpet Hmmmm is right. Maybe that's why my tranny is broken at present. Joe

AWD
I personally like the comment in that article about the AWD being split 60/40. I read that in an old Road and Track magazine too, but it is not true. I contacted Subaru after several disagreements with other members and they told me that the SVX AWD system is split 90/10 (most of the time).

i find it really funny that people think.....
that the svx only gets curious stares. people look at my car here in memphis like it is an exotic. of course mine has big wheels and is lowered. but to call the svx a failure......that was just insulting. there have been a lot of innovative cars like the bmw 850 that didnt sell well because they were too expensive. is the 850 a failure, hell no.

In this months car and driver Csaba Csere mentions the svx a couple times as an underappreciated car and compares it to the porsche 928, NSX, A8, and the - Honda civic tall wagon?

Check out Harvey's analysis on the Down Under thread, RHD SVXs have a different gearbox. He speculates that in the US in 1992, 4wd dynos were not common, so the 2wd fuse system allows the car to be used in 2wd mode, or put on a dyno in this mode. However, I would speculate further. The Full Monte 4wd box is probably a good deal more expensive to produce. Also, it is possible the only market to get the 2wd SVX was the US one. In marketing terms, this does make some sense, as during that period, and presently, the US have some quite big and powerful cars using Front Drive. The Cadillac Seville I think with a Northstar V8 would be an example. So if they were confiident of selling a lot of units[10,000?] with the tranny costing 500 or 1000 dollars less, then major corporate savings could be justified. Also, in Europe, there is still a strong bias for Rear Drive in upper market cars like Beemers and Mercs and Porsches, or 4wd such as Audi. So up-market in that market would have to be the all singing, all dancing fulltime 4wd. Can anyone confirm the only market to get the 2wd variant was the US? Joe PS Looks like you guys were short changed, but the equivalent British/Euro price for the RHD models would be way more expensive than what you boys paid new for your cars.

Even today, the H6 outback comes with viariable ratio torque. That is due to the fact that the computer controlls all. The only Subarus that comes 50-50 are the 4 cylc, manual drive cars (at least in the US anyways).
I just got back from the dealer and drove a VDC sedan. I loved it. I might trade in my 92 for that. They are offering 3500 for the SVX and asking 28000 for the '02 VDC. I just might do it... Lwin

Jeez lwin, didn't you just get the 92 like a week ago? The insurance company must have a special hotline set up just for you
I had thought I heard somewhere that the manual tranny in the WRX was able to transfer power like the autoboxes do - is that true? Or, perhaps it was the STi WRX or something... i forget... |

More money - less car. Ah well. It's still darn nice, and more than I deserve, I'm sure.
