I think that this is a great idea. How's about making an option of 2 certificates, 1 that's laminated and small enough to fit in your wallet (like a credit card) and the other that's sized to fit into the black binder that the owner's manual came in? Or perhaps a similar binder could be purchased for a nominal fee?
And Hey, what about an SVX pen or flashlight for the first (# tbd) members? Hop Last edited by Hop; 12-30-2007 at 01:01 PM. |

I'm not fond of this idea. It gives me the willies of big brother watching...and I don't want the thought of low mileage deterring me from driving the car.

It would appear to me that only simple certification of membership of an organization involved in car related affairs is required. Details regarding the members car etc. should not be required and would involve the admin. in a lot of extra work.

In my opinion, and it is only in my opinion.
Having your car's information listed could prove very valuable in the coming years. As our cars get more rare, having the history of your car archived with the website could be a valuable service for enthusiasts. And I'm quite sure participation would be voluntary. -Patrick

Patrick - where did the 25,021 number come from? I have only heard 25,000 in the past.
7,000 were right hand drive, and the rest were left hand drive, or 18,000. Sounds like some files were accidentally lost. That was one of the reasons that we wanted to get copies of them as well as use them for other projects in the future.

Earl, the original icons that the site was using are in my locker, just not the big ones. (under the sitework/latest revision/ folder.
-Patrick edit: Oh, and I was just making up numbers. 14,257 were actually produced.

Quote:
As far as mileage, if you are doing this for collectors status for your insurance, the total mileage that you could drive per year is 3,000 any way.

Depends on the state, I know they Don't record Mileage here in NC as far as I know. Not sure again never had them, but I could very well be wrong.

They don't record that in WA State either, but if you have a fixed mileage clause, you have to go by the agency to have them look at the odometer.

Good idea
I like the idea, and it does need to be kept simple like Trevor says.
A couple of suggestions though first. In order to qualify for what you call collector status, you will need to prove you are a member of a club. The SVX World Network is such a club. It is also by default and by the numbers the biggest club in the world dedicated to the SVX. We already have a membership system here, and in the past year we have had various levels of membership, as shown by the donation icons. What will be required from these insurance people is a certificate of membership. I suggest that if the Network issues such a certificate, then this cert needs to be personal and it needs to be numbered. It does not need to have details about the member's car, that's a separate matter. [It will be up to your insurer to check up on the mileage on the car, and the mileage traveled per year, nothing to do with the Network] Personal: It needs enough information about the member that there can be no ambiguity identifying the person. In order for the Network to issue a member's certificate for this purpose I feel it will be necessary for the member to provide us with his/her full address and DoB. The address needs to be shown on the cert, the DoB should be kept on file and not shown either on the Cert or to anyone without the member's permission. Numbered: The certificates will be issued for a calendar year, shown on the cert, and we should probably mark each certificate with a rolling number to differentiate them. However, we could live without the number system provided we mark the cert with the member's Network handle, which will be unique to that person. That should suffice I imagine. Anybody know what the Rolls Royce or Jaguar or Ferrari clubs do in this case? Joe

Joe, spot on.
However I do not think a date of birth would be required, provided a complete full name and address is provided for entry on the document. Yes, the network ID/handle would provide an adequate internal file reference. Do not spend any more freely given admin. time on this, just do it.
