Possible drive route

Over at the other site Mike (bansheemyk) has suggested a good drive - some backroads up to Snoqualmie Falls. This is the only suggestion so far and sounds pretty good. I have some time on my hands Sunday so I'm going to try to make it up there on a test run to see if it is clear of snow, plan a route, etc.

As far as meeting places, Mike suggested Dicks Drive In in Seattle. It would be a bit of a drive to get out to Duvall, etc from there, but then again sounds like we have people coming from all over (including OR) so it Seattle might be a good starting point.

Any other ideas?

Snoqualamie still is pretty icy as of last weekend but hopefully by mid March it will be ok. That goes up to about 2500 ft as I recall so keep an eye on the forecasts. This is a great drive I make it all the time. Plus if we end up at Snoqualamie Falls it is 4 miles from I-90 and everyone can head to the interstate for their treks home.
The most scenic route is Hwy 18 (pick it up right at I-5 at Federal Way heading towards Auburn) Take that all the way up to I-90 and cross it as it turns into Snoqualime Parkway and goes right into town to a "T". Take a left on 202 (Railroad Ave) and go about 1/2 mile and you are there.

I can print out a map if you like in Adobe Acrobat Reader PDF file format to post once you decide all the details.

There is also a great old time steam train ride there that takes about an hour and is a beautiful ride. And there is a terrific 50's style hamburger joint complete with juke boxes.

Sounds better and better! The burger joint would be a good "end of drive" hang out to all get together and eat. And of course the other great stuff to do there too! Mike had suggested a northerly route, through Duvall, Carnation, etc, but the southern approach might be easier to follow, being on hwy 18 the whole time and all. I'll do a little driving around this weekend and see. Surprised there is ice up there, but didn't remember it was so high up I guess. Sounds like a lot of fun though!

I don't think I have ever gone the northern route. LOL makes sense since we live in south Tacoma. We might want to do a poll and see which is prefered by most since a lot seem to be coming from the south. We could also meet there and travel outward to a chosen destination.
This time I am hoping someone brings camcorders too. I dont have one although I do have the technology and hardware to convert VCR recordings to AVI files and post them to my company website. BTW I have setup an SVX section there and posted some pics of meets etc and also beginning to post other stuff like PDF files of wiring diagrams etc. As someone needs something I scan it in from the manuals and post it.

I have a Hi8 camcorder that I will bring. I can convert it to VHS if needed. This sounds like it will be a great meet, and hopefully there is enough time for us to get a whole herd of SVXs together and show the other side of the states what we can do.

documentation

Randy

We will need documentation of the number at Reading of course. All lined up together, coordinated in an impressive array of colors. We will do the same, and the reason for the video camera is to get a picture of all of them. Much to big of a group shot for a regular camera. We will have to pan across the herd. -- What is a group of SVXs anyway. Maybe a gaggle or pod -

This sounds great! Since it looks like we now have a solid date, I'm going to contact a few more and tell them to mark the calendars!

Thumbs up A possible route...

I had some spare time yesterday so I did a test drive of the proposed route above. Basically Highway 18 from Federal Way to Snoqualmie Falls.

I started right at the I-5 exit and headed east on hwy 18. Right away it is a beautiful drive, two lanes with tall evergreens on both sides. The downside to this is there is no where to pull off and meet to get organized before the driving tour. You Tacoma guys might have some ideas though. My idea would be the Super Mall in Auburn, it is just a couple miles into the drive and the first real parking lot where we could meet. I'm looking for some where we can all gather before the meet, not too far off of Hwy 18, where we won't all get separated by traffic lights or traffic.

The route starts out 2 lanes, which would be nice for any adjustments needed to get all in a line, etc. At times it gets down to one lane and there are even a couple stop lights, but only a couple. And the scenery is great! Towards the end the hwy goes up and over Tiger Mountain, up to 1,500 feet or so. Steep and curvey, great for the SVX! And of course the end is Snoqualmie Falls, a great location! The parking lot was packed yesterday afternoon, but there is an upper parking lot that was large and completely empty. (probably not the case in the summer) We could probably park up there and have it to ourselves. And from there it is a short walk to any of the tourist activities people would be interested in. And I never encountered any snow the whole drive, though there were some beautiful views of the snow covered foothills and the mountains.

So overall I enjoyed the drive and I am giving my thumbs up to this idea. If we all agree on this option, I would strongly encourage making the trip down to wherever we decide on starting the drive. The more SVXes in a pack the more fun it would be! But I suppose the chronically late or those coming from the north or east that wanted to save an extra 30 miles could just meet us at the Falls.

Anyway, any other ideas for drives, meeting places, etc???

If this is a meet (which it is) what is an extra 30 miles from the north. We can go home the other way. This sounds good! Thanks for your time looking at the route and gathering places. The Super Mall sounds good unless someone else has a better place.

30 MILES Shoot. I'm planning on a couple hundred. Besides, what's a meet unless you "meet". I'll meet at the Super Mall..... just tell me when and where.

Also, anybody know a good, inexpensive place to stay in the area? Depending on how things work out, I don't know exactly where I'll end up anyway so..... any thoughts?

March 16 Meet sighn in.

Just to see how many are planning on going to the meet, go to the "March 16th Meet List" and sign in if you are going to go. If you are going to have more than one SVX with you, list that as well. It would be nice to know how many might make it.

Sounds great to me. I think SuperMall will be a great place to meet up. Probably on SW outer corner of the lot. There we will be visible to those coming in later.
I will do up a Acrobat Reader PDF file of a map of the area and the Route and try to get it posted soon.
