Thumbs up Washington meet in March

Well Saturday was a great success and I think everyone is looking forward to doing it again. Now of course we don't want to wear it out and have a meet every month, but since a few that really wanted to go this time couldn't make it, and talk of a March meet had already started, I think it sounds like a plan.

And it's never to early to plan!

So I'll start the ball rolling with a few questions. Those of you that spend time on both sites can post over at Yahoo on our progress for the Yahoo-only guys...

1. When? We're a month out so schedules are probably pretty open, but any preferences? Any dates that won't work at this point? Chad do you know when you'll be over yet? That it be a Saturday or Sunday is a given I think.

2. Where? Since most of us are within the greater Seattle/Tacoma area, it makes sense. Several members from BC, Oregon, Idaho, and Eatern WA, have expressed interest in coming to our area for a meet too. The question would just be where within this area. Factors would be central location, scenery, points of interest, etc. Also affected by the next question...

3. What? Everyone had a blast on Saturday, just getting together. An idea that has been brought up a lot, and what would be very cool and impressive, is a scenic drive. Preferrably somewhere with decent scenery and some nice windy roads, and most important somewhere we won't get lost in traffic so we can keep an impressive and head turning chain of SVXes! As I said, if we chose to do this, that would affect the "where" question. Another idea is the Cart racing track near Tacoma. Several did that on Saturday and seemed to have a blast. It sounds like with enough people we could rent out the whole facility for 1-3 hours.

Ideas? Comments? Suggestions?

Great ideas! We'll be out of town Mar 2 thru 8 so that weekend won't work for us but all else is open.
March won't give us a clear shot at the mountains yet though I don't think. We should save that trip and meet for the summertime. But there are plenty of really cool places to take a scenic drive to around these parts that should be free of snow by mid march.

Meet...where? Who? WHAT????

I'm going to bring my car over one of the last weekends in February or early March. I have thought about the pass, but I'm only worried about the trip over with my car on a trailer.

Even if I'm not over to pick my car up on a proposed weekend, I'd still make another trip over if there was a proposed "plan"

Saturday works the best for me, just so I don't have to drive both directions in one day. I can drive over Saturday morning and stay that night.

Also, if there isn't a "meet" set up when I come over to pick up my car, I'll let people know and maybe get together with a few "locals"

I'd like to meet in a central location, with some sort of driving tour.

Thought for the summer....Mt. St. Helens or Rainier....

Good to see some responses! I'm beginning to think mid March might work good, after Don and his family are back and to make sure Chad's car is in working order. Anyone else want to chime in here?

Great idea for St. Helens or Rainier too! Someone on the Yahoo site, maybe Don, had proposed those routes recently too. For summer of course. Both of those (espeically St. Helens) would probably draw up a lot of Oregon members too!

So anyone else have ideas for a date in March?

Group Photo ID'd

I have, with no small amount of help from Troy, put names to the group picture. I need Tim and Alex's last names and handles, and Bob, I don't have your handle there either.

Enjoy, let me know if I spelled someone wrong. Brian, I would be happy to put in actual names for "daughter & friend."

Be well (recognized),

Jerry

Scenic RACE? Sounds fun!

Mt. St. Helens is a great drive if I recall. There are actually two routes, a north one and a south one, I think separated by about 50 miles of I-5. I forget which one I've been on before, but it is a LONG, windy, nicely paved (it was built after the eruption of course) highway right up to where you are staring almost into the crater. Some great scenery the whole way with a big pay off at the top. Great place for some photos of the cars, there is actually a shot of 3 or 4 SVXes at the top floating around somewhere on the web. And if we got all lined up on the road up it would be quite an impressive sight, it's one of those mountain roads with lots of switchbacks where you can see the cars coming from down below, know what I mean?

Now that I've got everyone hyped up for this drive though, I should add that I believe the highway is only open in summer months and also the scenery and drive would be much nicer in summer weather.

Any one have an idea for a good 'winter' driving route?

St. Helens pics...

I found the pictures I was thinking of and I *believe* these were at one time labeled as being at Mt. St. Helens. The scenery looks about right to me too. From the looks of the snow on the mountain (but not on the road) this was probably late spring or early summer...

Mid March sounds good to me too. I like the Saturday option as well. I am not sure where to go though. The other options for summer sound great as well. As for now?

Lightbulb March 16th

I've talked to few people and also looked at all the posts thus far and have come up with a tentative date: Saturday March 16.

We haven't heard from many but so far that date *looks* like it would work for everyone that has spoken up. This doesn't have to be final yet, just seeing if the mention of an actual date brought any objections. I think it would be good to set the date fairly soon though so we can mark out calendars and I can start contacting other SVXers outside of this web site.

Unhappy Isn't the day after the "Ides" bad luck?

Especially the ides of March!

I won't be the first to object, but I won't be the last either.

March 16th...

Sounds perfect....

I will *hopefully* have my car back by then. I've decided to go with the 5 speed from Smallcar Performance in Tacoma rather than a rebuild and gamble on the automatic going T.U. again.

So if the swap only takes a week or so, I should be able to make it on the 16th.

I hope that we're not shooting for St. Helens in March though.

Nope, not shooting for St. Helens in March! It's been brought up as a good idea a lot but we have all agreed that is best left for the summer. We're still looking for good scenic Western WA drive that will be kinda central for everyone. Wish some more people would chime in here...
