Good Ol' Jiffy Lube...

I got my SVX serviced by Jiffy lube... Big mistake second time something they did screwed my car up... I needed a quick oil change.

1,200 miles ago i had my car serviced by these idiots.
I was driving home from the highway from my apartment to my parents house in jersey when all the sudden i hear my transmission making a crazy noise like there was a loose part in it then all the sudden it gets louder and LOUDER AND LOUDER. When soon before i knew it i was praying i was getting home. I soon realized as i got home i popped the hood and to pull the trans fluid dipstick out and what happens?? The shaft that you put the dip stick into has a huge hole in it (the tube) and the dipstick tip where you would put your finger in is broken off (i didn't do that...).Soon after i tried to pull the stick out trans fluid everywhere!!!! It emptied out everywhere...

I now have the owner of the Jiffy lube coming by my house tommorow to determine if it is his fault. I didn't open the hood of the car since i went to the Jiffy Lube....

what do you guys think will happen??
Answers, oppions greatly excepted... Now remember i'm still selling this I might get a new transmission out of this.

I used to take my car to jiffy lube and expressway lube....but will never again. Those guys dont know **** and they always **** something up. I asked for a new air filter before i got my k&n and they didnt put it in and i drove home with no filter.

Jiffy, or any other "quick lube" Protocol

When I had my own place I was able to do the work on my car at home. Since I've been living at apartment complexes for the last 10 years, I haven't had a place to work (legally) on my car. So I have been relegated to places like jiffy lube to have the short-term maintenance on my car done.

YOU MUST STAND OVER THEM AND WATCH YOUR BABY! If they won't let you at least stand in the bay door and "supervise", don't go there.

I won't let them put air in the tires..

Touch the driveline behind the engine block

or put the windshield wipers on...

They hate me when I'm there... but all I want is the oil changed, and the local manager understands (the peons get all feisty about what I won't let them do) But they get my 50.00 dollars every 3 months or so... and I watch them like a hawk…

And wish I had my own garage to do the work in…

Yeah I always had problems with Jiffy lube(not mehcanical though). They ripped me off. They lied as well. They hate me if I don't change anything other than engine oil. I hate to go there. I had taken my previous car and changed tranny oil and when they are changing the oil, I was supervising. It seemed like they were breaking my car by changing the gears back and force so many times. I was so affraid it was gonna blow the tranny or something.. Doesn't know what happened to my previous car afterwords because I sold the car right after that..(it was the time I met my SVX)

I do oil change by myself now. it's very inexpensive and kinda fun. And mostly, feels better not letting those Jiffy people touch my SVX!

I have a job interview tomorrow morning at Jiffy Lube . On the otherhand I had a few friends in high school who were lube techs and tire busters so I know about peoples cars getting messed up. Regrettalby now I have to pay for work on my vehicles since I have nowhere to fix my SVX in sunny Arizona. Darren

Guys, there is something i cannot understand. Why that police of "We fix your car without you watching?" it's like they are ripping you off without seeing it! how do you know that they changed the cylinders and some other parts in your tranny when in fact they just cleaned the valve body, the oil filter and oil change???
Read this story, i know a guy who purchased a new BMW from the dealership. after 5000 miles, he started to hear a grinding noise in the car, so he went to the dealership and they never knew from where the sound is coming from. they changed the tranny, the bearings, the fans motors, the O2 sensors (i think)........ but the sound never went away... then he went to my mechanic to show him the noise. the guy went for 30 mins when my mechanic fixed the problem!!! when the owner came back he didn't believe what happened... IT WAS A F*CKING PIECE OF METAL INSIDE THE TYRE!!! but my mechanic told him it was a problem in the tranny and asked for a $1000 for it before he tells him the situation. after the guy paid, my mechanic told him about the real issue and said he was joking about the $1000 fee. But the customer insisted on him taking the amount because he deserves it...
so you see, you can get ripped off sometimes and pay for something not true... always try to see what they are fixing in your car...

Has anyone changed their oil with the skidplate still on or do you have to take it off every time?.......And how many of you keep the plate off all together for daily driving?
I'm definately going to change the oil myself.

That's one of the oldest tricks in the book. Had the same thing happen to me 20 years ago. Had the brakes re-done on my '78 Regal and a day later noticed some clanking noise from the front. Just by chance I took off the hubcap and there they were, a couple lug nuts, not mine but extras. Years later I told this story to a friend who worked for a dealership and he confirmed that yes, most people won't check and will bring the car back in for some bogus costly repairs.

Most shops will get very irritated if you ask to watch what they are doing. The shops here ll have a sign inside saying that no customers are allowed inside the work area because of legal reasons. Their too afraid someone might get injured and sue their arse...or too afraid that someone might see something. Who knows...can't trust any mechanic is ya ask me.

I've never tried, but doubt you'd be able to reach the filter... not lying on your back in the driveway, anyway.

Several folks hereabouts run without the undertray. I prefer the modest protection it affords from potential road debris damage to the radiator bottom tank, lower hose, ATF lines, oil filter, and the like.

You are right about that, but an honest mechanic will let customers see what he is doing... he can make a legal format for example allowing customers to watch the work done but on their responsibility in case of injury or something...

They could but none of them would want to go through the time and effort to make up such a thing. What some shops do here is provide a window to see the work area where the little lounge that you wait in is. From there you can see almost anything that is going on.
