motor mounts
where's the best place to get motor mounts?
i know of subaruparts.com and, of course, the dealer... but i wasn't sure if there is someone with better mounts or the same mounts with a better price. |

The only motor mounts that fit without any mods are the stock motor mounts. You can also try 1stsubaruparts.com. They have a toll free phone number and excellent prices. I usually work with Jason at the parts counter. Very nice guy.

So Mych......when are you going to make some STI type mounts for our SVXs??
I am looking forward to ordering one of your rear sway bars soon. |

I'd have to have my mechanic up in Seattle make up some sets. He'd need my car back for an afternoon. I'm afraid with his labor, the price for a set of modified STi Group N motor mounts would be over $150/pr. I guess that's cheaper than a set of OEM engine mounts which apparently goes for $300. Hmm. Maybe it isn't so expensive. I'll have to talk with my mech about.
I'll say though, my experience is that if you are driving an SVX with the auto tranny, the factory engine mounts are fine (as long as they are still working). If you've got a 5MT, the Group N mounts are a good thing, but perhaps even better is stiffening up the rear subframe. The rear subframe allows huge amounts of movement of the rear diff, and from what I've read (and will find out for myself soon), this movement really contributes greatly to the low speed jerkiness that happens with SVX 5MTs.
