Out of curiousity, I started a thread on this up in General Babble (look it up for all kinds of good discussion).
Here's the best post that sums it up so far, from a very knowledgeable source too: "There was a lot of hand-assembly. The bodies were mostly welded together by robot, but final fitment and inspection was by hand and very thorough. As has been said already, the rear quarters were hand-brazed and hand-polished from two pieces. As I understand it (and I have no evidence to back this up - just hearsay) the SVX was built, one at a time, by a single team of people who took each car form start to finish along a short line."

That's pretty amazing... Even more so than a limited production vehicle, as they moved them pretty fast for being mostly handbuilt. Now I know why the car feels more German in construction than most other Japanese cars I've owned/driven.
