Question Timing belt, where in WA would be wise?

So my car's got 75k miles and well I should consider having the timing belt changed, SOON...

Problem is, I no longer live in a house with a garage, so obviously doing it myself is not an option. I must do 2 things I dislike... Pay $$ and allow someone else to touch my baby. I figure I'm already allowing the second one to happen at Chaplin's, so I'm already emotionally prepared for it, sort of.

So where do you guys recommend I bring her in for such service, that will be of good quality for the dollar? Chaplin's quoted me almost $1200 for the 60k service (timing belt, tune-up I guess, etc). That's a little steap... I was hoping more like 600, hehe..

Any ideas? I live in Redmond/Bellevue, but frequent the South Hill/Puyallup area as well so anywhere between the East-side and the south sound area would be fine.

Thanks in advance.

A lot of us use Smart Service (independent Subaru) for repairs, I know seasvx talked me into going there and I usually see another SVX while I'm there. I've been really happy with everything they've done on my car (most recently, resealing the @%^*#* aamco tranny - ouch).

You could save alot of money by doing it yourself.

I knew someone who doesn't have a garage did it by himself during the winter.

With what tools?

So that Smart Service place sounds promising, I'll check em out sometime. They're not too far either.

Thanks for the advice!

have a belt

Keep in mind the belt itself is just 100 bucks, so anything after that except fluids/filters is labor. If you have any friends with good mech skills and or a garage for a day you can really save. I do all my own work to avoid getting screwed, but I know you'd like just to get it done. If you shop around you'll save too, if you were in my neck of the woods i'd do it for 50 bucks. Hey Seattle and surronding area, help this guy out!! Good luck.

It would be a good idea to have the water pump replaced at the same time. It takes the same labor to do each job (belt and pump), so it will be very cost effective. Usually it will only cost the price of the pump to get it done too.

Heck if I was closer I'd pay you $200 for the labor, bring some cases of Fat Tire, and then go on a spirited drive in both our cars afterwards!

Hmmm, tempting.

Dave Clark Motorsports can do the work. His rate is better than any of the other shops, and he does excellent quality work. He's in Kent. 425 221 2470.

I'd love to try Dave Clark, but that's just too far for me to drive...unless its a major service....like getting my awd back

So many options. Thank you so much to all of you for all the information.

I'm going to shop around.

By the way, it is highly probably that I'll be getting my baby back tonight.

You guys have no idea how excited I am. Actually, I'm sure you do have an idea.

Definitely

One of my girlfriend's friend keeps wanting her to go visit her (just moved to Spokane a few months ago)... I always tell her it's too far away...

Now for some reason it seems like such a short distance.

I can see it now...

Her: "Thank you so much for coming with me to see my friend! I can't believe you finally thought it would be a good idea! *SMOOCH*"

Me: "Hey, no problem sweetie...hey listen why don't the two of you go shopping together for, say, about 8 hours or so... Call me before you guys head back tho, I'm going to be taking a nap in my car..."

Her: "Ok!
