Unhappy Sad days for MCAS Beaufort.. :(:(

My old squadron is on deployment on the USS Harry S. Truman at the moment. Just last Saturday one of the F-18's from that squadron went down off the Azores (west of spain). The pilot has not been found and is presumed DEAD.. This really sucks because I knew the pilot very well. We had been stuck with duty numerous times. He was a really great Officcer, and I know that he will be missed by everyone in VMFA-115 and the Marine Corps.

Also we had a F-18 crash on landing here at the airstation on Monday (Shortly after finding out the news of VMFA-115 loosing thier jet). The pilot of the latest crash was a Canadian Air Force pilot on the "Exchange program"... His jet apparently landed then went airborne again and flipped over and skided down the runway upside down. The pilot was flown to Savannah to one of the Hospitals where he passed away a few hours later.

This is a terrible time for the Air Station. Loosing two pilots in a time span of only 48 hours!!! We didn't loose any in all the operations that took place in Iraq and Afganistan and now we loose TWO in one weekend!!! Investigations are underway and will probably not be finished for well over 3 months. Either way, the results will probably be of a higher security clearance than I am allowed to share on here... Just wanted to let everyone know...

R.I.P. Capt. Hooks (VMFA-115)

I never knew the Canadian pilot's name and forgot to check the news paper.

Sorry to hear, but with all the fighting going on just keep in mind that it could have been a lot worse.

That is very true... Our guys are very good pilots flying airplanes that are older than me in some cases!!! However they all know the risks of flying and accept what may happen every time they climb into the jet. I know the risks and I will be prepaired to accept them when I join the Australian Royal Air Force in about 3 years to be a pilot and fly Saab Gripen's... <--- If they have them in service by then

Sorry about your boys but lets hope you can fly a plane better than you can drive.

I am sorry to hear that. That is the risk all of our military face every day of service. Whether it is a flying an plane, or just driving a truck. It is just risky business in many cases. God Bless our Troops who protect us and serve us every day!

I'm very saddened to hear about this. I just hope their families will be able to cope with such a terrible, sudden loss...

The worst part of all is this:

The canadian pilot was on his way back from a traning exercize in Denmark with the rest of the VMFA-122... The families, and most importantly HIS FAMILY, were waiting for the jets to get back. They were all out watching the planes land. Then suddenly they see a plain come in and crash!!! His wife and kids watched his plane flip over and slide down the runway!!!! I can't imagine what they were thinking when it happened... But since then all the planes have been grounded and we are going through a major "safety stand down"... It's the smart thing to do...

Yeah I know all too well how hard it can be. A couple of my buddies were in Iraq for a few months and the both were killed by militants in a suicide bombing. Its an extremley tough thing to get through. I feel your pain devildog!

I can't stand the fact that the idiots in that country can't see that we are trying to help them!!! In the Iraqi conflict we lost a total of 8 Marines from the Air Station. 1 of them I knew... Infact he lived a few rooms down from me in my barracks. He was killed in a milita ambush. It is freaking retarded!!!! I wish sometimes that I could go check out my M-16 from the Armory and get a few hundred rounds and fly over there and just go on patrol with the other guys that I know are still over there... Plus, my ex-girlfriend is over there!!! She's a Marine too!!! I ell her to be careful every time I talk to her, but I just wish I could be there too... I want in on the action!!! I feel like I'm sitting down doing nothing while the Marines that I trained with get sent over there to be attacked and beheadded by those bastard's that can't just stop fighting for once!!!

If they'd only understand what we are trying to do for them...
