Taking the tranny out

Does any one here have shop manual on how to take the tranny out of the SVX? Eddy you might know this. I am looking for a specific diagram/words that says that you have to unplug the transaxel wiring harness (mainly O2 sensor and ground tranny cable) is one of the steps you have to take to remove the tranny housing on the SVX. I have documention saying that for all other vehicles (justy, Loyal, Legacy etc, ) but no mention on 4 spd auto tranny in my book.

Thanks

Lwin

I have the shop manuals for the 92. The sections you need for the transmission removal..... well that is a lot of pages. Is yours a 92?

No mine is 94 but all I am interested in is the parts about the removing wiring harness -- the one near (top) of the transaxel. It contain the connection for the O2 sensor and the trans. ground wiring. I am argueing my point with one of my friends on why my car was not running a while back. I know it exists on the legacy and other subaru trannies. My book does not say SVX (it says AWD 4spd auto tranny) and he wants to see SVX in there.

Lwin

I guess in another word, 92 will do.

Lightbulb An answer to your question

I have the service manual in front of me here and in section 2-11 page 21 it says:

8) Disconnect harness connectors.
Transmission harness connectors
Transmission groung terminal connector
Vehicle speed sensor 2 connector
O2 sensor 1 & 2 (RH & LH) connectors

I hope this is the info you were looking for.

So why wasn't your car running? Something to do with the wiring connectors?

Also I seem to remember reading that a 94 wiring harness is not like a 92. Blondeman has posted on this.

The O2 sensors should be the same. You can follow the wire from the sensor on the exhaust pipe. It is near the back of the engine.

On the 92, the two connectors on the top of the tranny are right under where the firewall starts and the ground is in there too.

I am interested in the ground wire. That's the reason why my car would not start -- as far as I know.

Who is this blond_man? I know... I have not seen him online for ages now...

The ground wire on my 92 is in the middle of the car under the fire wall. Mine looks like it may have been broken at one time.

Eric (north Jersey) has not been on line for some time, I agree. If you do a search on "transmission" I think a few of his posts will show up.

Yes you have to disconnect the two harnesses on top of the tranny, 2 O2 sensors, speed sensor 1, and the ground wire. Also the starter assembly, lower ball joints, Axle shafts, exhaust system, heat shields, rear drive shaft, performance rod, and then you can unbolt it and remove it.

Oy! it is a lot of work, trust me, but it can be done in the home garage, it's just not easy.

If you really have to do this, PM me for more tips.
