What is this, and How Do I get it Off?
I have a high pitch noise comming from my Drivers side rear. I touched my rim and burned my self on it. So after loosening my parking brake I figure it has to be bearings? It's not a dull grinding noise which I associeate with bearings, more of a high pitch sqeel when driving. My Calipers seem to be moving fine and whith that kind of heat it has to be bearings right? Well I removed the entire knuckle from my car but one cable and cant figure it out. Please help me! How do you remove it?

the mystery cable is the sensor for the ABS. use multiple PB Blaster applications and try wiggling it so it comes free. Careful. I understand they're expensive.

I have tried numerous shots of WD40 but It seems like it doesn't want to come off. Is there a bolt, weld or lock anywhere? Do I need to take this off to get the bearings out? AHHHHH the fustration!

there is a bolt on the back side if I remember correctly. WD 40 is not as good as PB Blaster - WD40 is mostly an aerosol oil while PB does a better job at penetrating and breaking down rust 0 which is usually what causes the sensor to freeze up. You might look at the other end of the cable that comes out the other side - see if it can come off from there. Also search for rear bearing replacements. Some won't be of any help, but I remember a few talked about frozen/rusted parts.

If your wheel is that hot, it is much more likely to be brakes than bearing related.
You might have a sticking calliper, or a stone lodged in the brakes. Also, maybe your handbrake shoes have seized on or something. They are in the rear hub. Joe

If you can't get the sensor out of the knuckle then just unplug the sensor from the harness. You may have to go under the rear seat to get to the connector but it's worth it. The sensor is expensive. You'll need a press to get the bearing in and out.

Yeah found that bolt. Removed it. The funny thing is my car has no rust. All the bolts came off fine. But the darn ABS sensor is still stuck. Even got a pair of pliers on it to try and wiggle it out. One more question
It seems the ABS sensor is "plugged" into a small light colored "mount" that you can see easily in the second picture which is bolted to the dust guard. Does this entire mount come off of the dust guard, or does the abs sensor pop out of the mount? It would make sense the bolt would free the ABS sensor/mount combination, but it seems like it is welded to the dust shield.....Or is this just rust? |

I thought it was the brakes too at first, but everything seems to be in check. Took the calipers out, everything looked fine, seals all in good shape, pads are brand new. I cleaned all the parts/pads. I adjusted the parking brake cable so it was extramly loose and wouldn't engage, the shoes look fine. I cleaned and greased all sliding parts. I'm stumped?

No confusion now.... I have a high pitch noise coming from the left rear of my SVX. I touched the wheel rim and burned my hand on it.
