Re: The demise of Ivan The Awesome (loooong)

Firstly, I am really glad you are OK. Second, you pen a good story. Third, don't be too hard on yourself - we have ALL done stupid things in our SVX or other cars. You will probably not drive as close to the limit after this...

The state that the car is in...Whoa! You were certainly not meant to die on that night!

Hope things work out for you mate.

Mike

glad you are ok mate

i had a similar but less catastrophic incident in my first pearlie heading home down a fairly long twisty mountain .

it was wet and i was doing about 70-80 kph i went around a left ,a right , a left then another right and as i got to the start of the next left the tail went out and i slid pretty much 90* sideways for about 50-80 metres and some how slid around the left bend while facing the guard rail which was on the right and managed to pull up about 50 cms almost perfectly perpendicular to the guardrail facing back up the hill that was scary rock face on the left and guardrail with a few hundred metres of very very steep (if straight up is 0* this was about 15-20*) tree infested mountain side on the right .

i think i must of hit a slight oill patch or something , or the body roll of the car got too much for the tires

Re: The demise of Ivan The Awesome (loooong)

Wow. So another SVX passes from the registry. Doubt there's much to salvage from that one.

That had to be a wild ride. Glad you're okay.

You mentioned fearing the fuel tank was leaking. Was it? Years ago I had a rollover accident (nothing remotely this intense) in a Suby 3-door, which came to rest on its roof. Moments before the wreck I'd filled the gas tank, and I'll always remember being upside-down in that car, trying to gather my wits, when the notion of leaking fuel hit me with a jolt and hastened my exit from the thing.

Once the car was righted I could see oil had somehow escaped the crankcase, but I don't think it leaked a drop of gas.

Better luck with your next SVX.

I had a similar experience when someone managed to spill kerosene on the road. lost all traction and almost spun sideways into oncoming traffic. Police seemed not to care about it. I had it all over the tires and side of my car.

After seeing more photos, I think you should buy a lottery ticket. Glad you are okay, Not much left of the car

Re: The demise of Ivan The Awesome (loooong)

I'm totally speechless after seeing the photobucket pictures. It's hard to believe someone could have walked away from that with almost no injuries. RIP Ivan.

Again, really glad you made it. I just want to know why your tail lost it in that bend.
You know, I think it was because I lifted off the throttle too much. I didn't hit the brakes till after I was sliding. And I'm guessing I was doing about 90mph. I'm sure the slide took some of that speed off.

the corner in the middle is where I lost it. I was heading east, left to right on the pic.

A word of advise people: Don't go all out after changing suspension pieces. Nevins sway bar DRASTICALLY changes the way the car handles. Its way more responsive. Ask me how I know
