Electric Rav4 anyone?

Toyota actually built these, but only 328 were made available to the general public.

I think total electric is absolutely the way to go for most commuting (maybe with a few PV panels on the garage roof to supplement charging), but not at THAT price.

One word: BEANO

For $55K, you could build your own electric SVX, and have change to spare!

Cool but I'd rather wait for the R2e.

Quite a bit of change! I could build an electric SVX for under $10k.

You probably should go into business then, 'cos gas is only going to get more expensive, and if worst fears are realized, scarce, sooner than later.

I would be happy to drive something like this to work (with an SVX held in reserve for weekends and longer trips):
http://car-reviews.automobile.com/ne...ext-year/5379/

Don't know what a nightly charge would do to the typical power bill but it couldn't hurt any worse than $4-$5-$6 per gallon gasoline, especially as photovoltaic electric generating systems become more affordable in coming years.

I think I would want to know, How much life was left in the batteries. How much a new set would cost.

I have a solar, wind powered, power system that the house runs on, and I know how long and the problems they have.

But I look forward to the time I can run a small electric car, for local duties, charged off my system.

Harvey.

for this much money, you can really save the extra $30K to buy a brand new regular car...and the extra $30K can be your 20yrs, 30yrs, 40yrs gasoline money even if it's $5/gallon, still!(depending on how many miles you drive per year but still a long time) and you have more money to do some modifcations and you'll have a car to have good driving range with good accelerations and don't have to waste time on getting a full charge for 6-8hrs a day?

PS: In winter, would the driving range drop down to like 70-80miles only?
