Transmission Compatability
Hi chris!
I've had this 1992 SVX for a few years handed down by one of my relatives, anyhow, He ran it down to the ground and the car's transmission is useless now, I been thinking about rebuilding it but knowing about the problems associated with earlier models of the 4EAT transmission im a little hesistant. are there other transmissions from other cars of later model that would fit on to the SVX??, your input would greatly be appreaciated, thanks so much Dorian |

Hi Dorian.
If you want to keep an automatic transmission you have several choises. ECU Tune out of FL has rebuilt trans in stock 3.545, 4.11, and 4.44 variations. My choise would be a 4.44. You can find a used SVX trans, or have someone who knows what they are doing to do the swap for you. I enjoy doing the 4.44 upgrade but TomsSVX is much closer to you in New Jersey. If you do a search on 4.44s, it will give you lots of information. If you want to do it yourself, there is a how to in my signature, and a parts and tool list in my old locker. Good luck. Hi Tom,
Thanks for your input, Im going to look around and see what I find, Im most likely to hit up tomsvx down in jersey since it isnt that far. I heard of people putting a transmission from a 2001 imprezza? is that possible, thats a manual correct? and yes im looking to keep it automatic for now, IPT Transmissions(http://www.importperformancetrans.com/subaruauto.shtml) in NJ wanted $10,000 big ones to put in a manual transmisison, and their price for a rebuilt automatic is around 4G's, I thought that was ridiculous for the manual swap, anyhow, Im not that familiar with manual so rather burn out the clutch I figured sticking to automatic would be a better bet for now.
