i have bad backfiring and hesitation, had a CEL for misfire for cyl.2, put new spark plugs in and ran twice as bad with backfiring and spuddering, i changed just that one bad coil with a previous old spark plug that was on it, now to runs with the same old backfiring and hesitation, i know its a bad coil because i took it off and looked at it while i cranked the engine, 1 out of 10 times i cranked it, did it actullay make a spark.... im trying to put this in best words...., so why is it that if it has a good plug it causes even more backfiring and spuddering then if i have a old nasty plug on.... also when i rev it, it makes a whirling noise and quickly decends rpm after i let go of gas, my opinion is that its only running 5 cyl. and with a good spark plug its combusting the fuel every other cycle or two..... and the bad plug doesnt even ignite the fuel....., and my exhuast is really white...... and smells like raw fuel anytime on start up...... anyone get what i am saying??

If you know the coil pack is bad, why did you put a new plug in?
You need to change out the coil pack and be done with it.

Go ahead and change all the plugs and install another coilpack. Should cure your misfire.
