Frozen Caliper Piston *Grumble*
So I was taking care of a few things on the SVX tonight, and that included changing out the "I'm going to sell this car tomorrow" brake pads the previous owner put on.
In the process I got the rears done, then went to the fronts. On the passenger side I noticed that the pass side pads were worn down way farther than they should be. Well I found out when I went to push the pistons back in that one was frozen. Both boots are also ripped, and I tried my heart out to get it to move, but to no avail. I just felt like grumbling about the situation. So now I'm on the hunt for a new caliper.

Folks have them in the parts for sale area. You could also post a parts wanted as well, and let the bidding begin. Good luck!

You can get a rebuilt, unloaded caliper for $50-60. You can get a rebuild kit for $10-15.

advance auto, napa, www.rockauto.com
But if the piston is seized and you can't free it you'll need a rebuilt.

I just went ahead and replaced all the calipers on mine. They're cheap. Go to RockAuto.com (and don't go to PartsTrain or any site linked to it!) and you can either order just the calipers, or the calipers with mounting brackets. Since all mine were rusted I went the bracket route, and it only really cost me about $100 or so. Now there's no vibration and no more brakes-hanging-up-and-heating-up-wheels.
FYI the front caliper part numbers are: 19B1960 - Front Right w/ Bracket 19B1961 - Front Left w/ Bracket 191960 - Front Right w/o Bracket 191961 - Front Left w/o Bracket |

Or...
You could get a big brake kit. . I'm pretty sure I saw Tom poking around with an STi kit with custom brackets. Just an idea.

That's the plan, but I need to save up some $$ for that, and I don't want to be w/o an SVX until that time comes.

GHABAHAHAHEHERRRRRRR
It's my own dumb fault. I decided to not go ahead and check the front drivers side and just order the front pass side. Got a new one from Rock Auto put in today. Went like butter. Went over to the other side to change pads.... and guess what. THAT ONES FROZEN TOO!!! I should have known. So now it looks like there'll be no SVXing for me this long weekend That is unless I swing by the junkyard and see if that specific part is still on the SVX they've got there. And then see if it's working.
