Question

Chris

Not sure what you are asking. What do you need to know about the cambelt and the seals?

Sorry ! what I am trying to find out is about the oil seal change.
I am told that it is going to be a big job so i am trying to locate a garage that will do a good job and not charge too much over the odds for the job, and while that job is being done should i change the cam belt.

Yes

Cam belt should be changed at 60K miles intervals. If you are changing oil seals at the front of the engine, and the cam belt is even near the 60K figure since the last change, put a new belt on. It has to come off anyway for the seal replacement.

Not sure what seals gave you trouble on the day of the meet, but age would be against them anyhow on a '92 car. They perish and harden.

Interesting point I learned from Beav. If your crankcase is under higher than normal pressure, this causes seepage past the seals. There are two small inexpensive valves that control this, the PCV valve[Positive Crankcase Ventilation] and the EGR valve, for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. I have not done mine yet, and I have leaky seals. If your dipstick is popping up all the time, there is too much pressure in the crankcase.

Best of luck with it.

Do you want to buy a RHD workshop manual? They are about £90 to £100 from Australia, and could save you a lot of money.
