Really Weird Problem w/ Seat Belts
Got a really weird problem with my '92's automatic seat belts, and any help would be appreciated.
Upon stopping, placing the car in PARK and removing the key "before" opening the door, the belt will NOT retract forward. However, if I reinsert the key and immediately pull it out, it retracts. No need to start the engine, just insert the key. Anyone had this problem before?? Thanks in advance ..... Harry

Hi Harry
Yes, on one of mine I have had that happen and some other wierd stuff. I have come to the thought that it is the key tumbler. If I move the key in or out a little, it makes contact and then works ok. It may not be your problem, but you might start there.

I have the same problem with mine, it never occured to me that it could be the ingition. Let us know if you find a solution. Mabey a squirt of graphite might help.

The tumbler on mine is shot and needs to be replaced. I can pull the keys out while it is running.
 The other one is not that bad, but I have to wiggle the key to get the belt to move at times.

Earl,
I think you "hit the nail on the head"!! The tumbler seems to be the problem. Annoying, but not a big deal - I think it WOULD be a big deal to have the tumblers replaced .... Mike, I give it a shot of graphite, but I don't think a great deal should be used, if at all, in the ignition switch. Thanks for the imput from both of you - nice to know I am not alone ..  BTW, I suspect the use of a key chain with LOTS of keys (and therefore HEAVY) is the cause for this problem......... Harry

i heard that it's not a good thing to have any extra weight except the car keys for being in the ignition-meaning not to have any extra weight. i keep my car keys separate from the other keys that i have.
