For all of you who have a buzzing exhaust - good news!

Like many of you, I suffered the dreaded exhaust "buzz" at certain RPMs.

I confirmed that it was something loose in the centre exhaust resonator that was causing this.

Lately, the "buzz" has become much worse - it was occuring at around 1600RPM, and was lasting all the way from 2500 to 3500 RPM!

This made acceleration quite noisy........!

However, I have found a muffler repair shop that is able to cut the resonator open, weld up the loose baffles inside, and weld it together again!

I took my spare resonator to Carline Mufflers (25 Higginbotham Rd Gladesville) this morning, and this afternoon, I came back to have it re-fitted.

The difference is amazing! Not only is the buzzing gone, but the exhaust sounds MUCH quieter than before! Obviously, the resonator had not been doing its job for quite some time!

I paid just under $150 to have the resonator fixed and fitted.................

..............much better than the $1000 I was quoted by Subaru for a new one!!!!

Jason.

The "buzz" is RPM dependent - not speed dependent.

If it occurs when the engine is being revved in Neutral, then it is likely to be the centre exhaust resonator.

Good work Jason.

I made the mistake of throwing mine away, and I was less than happy with the sound from the straight through pipe. Not a lot louder, just a less attractive sound.

This was done before. I think Danny from the Lebanon may have been the first to do it, or possibly some of the guys in the US.

Anyway, good to know it is a satisfactory fix, and for small dollars.

Joe

Before everyone runs off to get the resonator fixed, make sure the rattle is not a heat sheild rubbing on the center baring, as was the case with mine, the symtoms are very similar! after adressing this if the problem persists then please see your local doctor Jason he has the answer!

nice work mate!

Cheers,
Jake
