Random thoughts
Do you think, all things considered, it would be better to garage the SVX for the summer to reduce wear & tear, and just buy a beater-*cough*-commuter car? I mean, it would reduce W&T on ANY car to just not use it, but with the tranny overheat issue... cost of parts and labor...and my middle class "live check 2 check" lifestyle..........
I dunno, I thought I would throw that out there. -Sz

Getting a 5 spd would cure that. I hope my tranny holds out long enough for me to save 4k. Man I want a 5 speed.

Well, that's a long story. Nashua Subaru has had a shady rep with me since I bought my car from them. From day one there was a transfer problem, and when I sent my car in for an early 60k tuneup they ignored it, said it was "nothing". It was actually something along the lines of metal particles in the tranny, and led to it bombing on me. Last time I checked, a tuneup that closts over $200 should involve a tranny flush. Regardless, I was not appreciative of it... but they were very happy to tow it in, (and the tow driver took a chunk out of my bumper somehow in transit), and bill the four figures.
I have called North End Subaru in Lunenburg MA. A fellow subie owner recommended them to me. I am going to have my 100k done, but still... I worry. I love the car too much to risk being without it, even for a short time. Although I suppose this is the risk we take, yes? It's just on those hot 90 degree days in traffic, I can mentally feel that tranny fluid crisping... My suggestion was to get a cheap car for commuting, and drive my SVX for recreation (nights & weekends). -Sz

Sorry about your bad experience with Nashua. They have been good to me with the 96 I bought from them. Of course I got an exteneded warrenty which has more than paid for itself. I don't think Suby specifies a tranny flush ever, just a drain and fill every 30K, they don't even have the equipment. If yer tranny is good for now and yer worried sure, go for the beater. (but a cooler is cheaper) B.

Sorry. I've found a car that makes me happy across the board. I love the way it looks. I love the way it drives. I have an eighty mile per day, round trip commute. Now, why, on God's green earth, would I want to be uncomfortable during my peak driving time and only be comfortable on weekends? I refuse to punish myself going to work each day. After all, it's what I work for. I say, Drive the SVX during the week and be comfortable, especially in those traffic jams (you figure a "beater" ain't gonna break down in those conditions?). If you MUST have a "beater," then, drive IT on weekends.

As much as I agree with Randy, I intend to have my SVX for a long, long, long time. So I 'punish myself' every day with a Justy.
But then, the Justy is also cheaper to drive and I don't care where I park it.

We have our own private lot, so, I have no problem with a safe place to park, at work. I live in the country, so, unless a cow dings it, I don't have to worry about door dings. The wife does the shopping in her mini van, so, I don't have to worry about the shopping carts. I too plan on keeping my SVX for a long, long, long time and driving it for a long, long, long, long time. And if this one goes, I'll find another, if I have to beg, borrow or steal to get it. And if that one goes . . . well, you get the point. Until I can no longer drive, I'll have an SVX, and as long as I CAN drive, I'll drive it.
