The Big 4-0

well...more like "-40"

According to local weather we reached -39° today (without windchill)

The SVX started ok (it was plugged in) although I had an issue with the driver door latch.

It seemed as though the latch was partially stuck open so I couldn't completely close the door...it would just pop open. The only way I could close the door was to lock it first then close it.

Does anyone know how low the outside temp gauge registers because it said -32°C and I know it was much colder than that.

-32°C is about -25°F

We were actually wondering about that in another thread only last week or so. I don't think mine ever registered -25F, so I think you have the lowest confirmed reading.

I would guess that, as the temperatures get into more extreme numbers (positive or negative), the sensor in the front of the car probably gets less and less accurate.

It's official...last night we reached -40° for about 3 hours (without windchill)

At one point the windchill was -54°C or -65°F

I almost froze my fingers trying to lock the door of my car (bare hands on door handle - instant burn!!).

No tundra here...we're not considered arctic. (yet)

I pushed the "Outside Temp" button on my dash when I got in the car this morning. It read "4." I said to myself, "damn thing must be broke!" Then, I cranked up the radio. The weather came on and they said, "It's currently 4 degrees." We don't usually get those kinda temps here. The low tonight is expected to be -2. Earlier in the week, they were predicting mid 40's for today and hitting 50 by this weekend. Anybody else here think that weatherfolks just don't know what the hell they're talking about?

It was down to -41 last night! At 11pm the SVX said -34°C when it was actually -38°C.

-34°C = -29°F (a new record for the SVX)
