in at last

it was about 3 days that i didn't drive the svx, and when i go to take it out for a spin i can't open the door. now, we sort of live out of sight of off a long driveway and i just leave the keys on the console. i peer in and the doors are locked. i go to get the spare set. now when i got the car two years ago i got 2 key rings, one with the working remote and one key and a second with a non working remote and two keys, one shorter key. i figure the short key is for the trunk, never bother to check them. what a surprise, the short key is just a broken key! HA! pretty good. and of course the other key opens the trunk. i go to the dealer and they make a key using the code from the broken key. it doesn't open the door. now i figure i had two trunk keys on the one ring. i go back and they make a key from the computer using the vin number. i still can't get in. i try a set of skeleton keys, still no go, finally i get one of the new keys to turn the passenger door lock. now i find that the batterly is dead. i mean dead as in when i go to jump it i can't even get the dash lights to go on. after a visit to wall mart and a new battery i finally get to drive the svx again. some fun subaru week. and by the way, the ignition key won't open the door, seems the key is a bit bent, just enough for it not to open the door. and the broken key was in fact an ignition key, discovered this when i see the code on the working ignition key matched at on the broken key, for whatever reason the replacement keys from the dealer didn't work, at least at first. the bottom line is i was right never to lock the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.

Lets see - the short key is the ignition key and the bent one opens the trunk, but the other one that was not bent doesn't open anything except the glove box -

I know the frustration of a dead battery - the car locks even if your keys are in the car. The other day my son locked the keys in the trunk - yep, they were safe, but I couldn't open the car to get into the trunk. A friend drove me home to get my spare key. (the one that I hid on the car was not there).

O.T. buts reminded me of a little tag they put on newer Cavilers. If you open the trunk there is a glow in the dark tag hanging from the trunk lock mechanism with a picture of a guy jumping out of the trunk and running away from the car?

BTW. Calmone, your lock are screwed up.

A luminscent tag so you can find the trunk release is a good idea.

Cool

Back in high school, the trunk key from my friend's father's '57 Olds, fit the ignition of another friends '55 Pontiac, who regularly drove it to school. Needless to say, the Pontiac was stolen at lunch time on a regular basis.

Ron (GM has 5 key patterns).

But last time I checked Cavilers were not popular mob cars, and if you were locked in the trunk long enough the tag wouldn't be glowing anymore? I just found it very strange.

The key for my Impreza will start my SVX. I found that out by mistake. It will not, however, come back out without a bit of persuasion. I have them on different key rings now.
