Extended Warranty Co's Do they Work???

I'm looking to buy an extended warranty for my new to me '96 LSI. I've read some horrible stories on real use of extended warranties. Who has used used them successfully, and which companies? Who has had bad luck, and which companies. I've only got 41K on it, and the drivetrain warranty expires in January 02! All your feedback is welcomed.

I had bad experiences with my warranty people. I know friends who had bad experience with them as well. I also know people who had good experiences.

The thing is, you have to go through every single fine print and take it to a reputable mech. or suby dealer (mine will look at it) and tell you if any/all parts are covered and HOW they are covered.

I know someone who needed new boots on his car. The boots are covered by the warranty -- but, if they get screwed by another defective part, then the warranty does not cover them. Guess what... he got screwed.

My 2 cents is that go through the paperwork line by line with a microscope and bring it to someone who will fix your car and make sure things can be covered.

I myself is still fighting on moronic warranty idiot telling me that I abused my tranny by running my engine at high RPMs while the car is in neutral and park!?!?!

So there..

I highly recommend Heritage warranty company. They paid 3500 for a rebuilt transmission and paid again to replace the flywheel, which required removing the transmission. The trans shop, level 10, says they are the best he has seen. Go to www.autoservicecontracts.com

I recommend 1source Auto Warranty. I wasn't sure of them at first, they require you to wait 1000k miles or 1 month prior to their warranty going into effect. But it made sense after the fact, and they've since covered just about everything that I've asked of them. They will not cover preventative maintenance though. If something is broken they will pay, but if it may break, they prefer to wait until it does break.

I've been happy though, they paid $500 on an idler and some other parts, and then proceeded to pay out $4500 on rebuilding my Transmission. They also paid for a rental car.

The other nice thing is that I wasn't able to make a large $2000 payment for a long warranty, they allowed me to pay 20% down and pay the rest in increments over the course of 10 months.

How long do the extended warranties from the prev. two post go for?

$2000 seems steep if it's only like a 1-2 year. A gamble i'M not financially prepared to take but if it's a loooooooonnnnnggg warrantee then that's something you can't afford not to get.

NO NO, it actually only covers you for 10 miles, it's a piece of Cr@p policy. =)

Anyways, smarty pants....The policy has more than paid for itself already.
