No. The backing of the display have green painted on them And green will over power anything else.

Trust me. I've done more than enough things to SVX electronics and interior looks.

I trust you and appreciate the feedback. This helps me make up my mind to go with the Reverse EL overlays. Even though I like the dark stock gauge backround, I like the electroluminescent blue even more so. Thanks for paving the way and doing the groundwork; it prevents a lot of trial and error (especially the ERROR) on our part.

My next project is to make the interior blue / red (just like my passat).

My thoughts exactly

I was thinking the same thing. If you could get the EL reverse guages in red (which I know you can't) and then have a blue LED in the guage cluster with the light aimed at the white face, you'd have the red illumination of the numbers and and a blue background.

-or- we find a clear spray-on coating that will reflect the color of the accent lighting and perform your mod of changing the bulb and marking colors (from behind the faces).

The possibilties are endless..

By the way, what bulbs do the gauge faces take?

On second thought

On second thought, anyone with white guage ovelays can try a REVERSE Passat look. Take a red LED and aim it at the white faces. At night, you'd end up with blue numbers and hash marks with the faces glowing red. Not sure what that would look like, but it's an easy test by anyone with the white faces and a red LED pen light or key chain light.

Any takers want to try this, take a pic and post it for the rest of us to see?

Third thought

Attached is a pic of the new Mazda 3 gauge layout. The number and marking color is red like Seraph's, but the silver (during the day) trim ring reflects the blue LED and has that bluish glow at night. Someone with a steady hand, good masking and silver paint could try this on a stock SVX gauge panel and duplicate it.
I'm willing to try, but need a spare gauge panel. Does anyone want to donate a broken gauge face? I can't put my gauges out of comission for as long as this might take.

Why do so many people want blue? I find blue the hardest color to focus on at night. Red makes sense though.

What you want is blue and red. You want a blue background on numbers and red needle. Blue is a **** colour and red will keep you focused.

Hey Lwin that looks great. Why is your temp set to 24 though? I thought it only goes as low as 65

It's in degree C not degree F. I can't understand F for room temp.

I'll do a picture how to this weekend.

Looking forward to the pics

I've held off buying the reverse EL gauges in anticipation of the instructions.
Lwin, I'm looking forward to seeing details of your mod.

You da man!

mmm, in my opinion guys, nothing is impossible concerning customizing, i guess there is always a way to achieve our desires!!! concerning the green plastics, i guess they surely can be done by mixing the gauges'with another brand's gauges. there is always a way but it will take a lot of time to accomplish... first you should take them out, go to a junk yard or a certain parts dealer, compare it with another one and try to take out parts replacing the green plastics... it's a painful project to do!!!!!!!

Seraph,

When you get a chance, please don't forget us cobalt blue gauge seekers. I'm itching to try the mod and will buy a spare set of gauges on which to experiment and play.

Thanks in advance
