New Tires

The Beautiful 'Naviguesser' told me that SUBYDOO ( '97 SVX) needs new shoes (tires). And who would know more about wanting new shoes than Rosie? I have an old photo of the real SVX Pace Car at the Reading Meet with its trunk filled with her shoes. And that was only an overnight stay. Anyway I always put all-season high performance tires on the SVXes. But now I don't run them when the snow and salt is on the ground. That's what Outbacks are for. I've been looking at TireRack's website at both ultra high performance all-season and summer tires and am leaning towards the BF Goodrich G-Force 2A/S Plus. in the stock size. It seems like a fairly good tire for a low price.
I would appreciate all comments and suggestions from fellow SVXers. Keep in mind that I recently turned 77 years old and don't drive like I used to but occasionally will have some fun with the car on dry twisty roads.

Larry, those are great summer tires. Just be careful if driving in a heavy rain. All the best and hope you and Rosie are well!

My latest set purchased are Vredestein Qualtrac.

Very pleased. Plus they are designed by Giugiaro, which is fun.

The replacement for the Qualtrac is the Hypertrac.

I have the BFG G force comp 2 A/S on my BRZ and they have been a great tire! I would recommend them.

I just put the BFGs on my '07 Outback. They are overkill tire for the OB but they really made it handle great especially in the storm. Plus the price is very reasonable. I will get these for the SVX.

Larry, I have found Continental to be the best bang for the buck right now. Very good all around performance but quite a bit less than Michelin, which is great. I also like General Tire for the value.

I've used the BFG G force comp 2 A/S as well but switched to Firestone Firehawks and have been impressed. The main reason was the cost to performance ratio.

I could not get the BFGs from Tire Rack. They are on back order and are expected in about 30-90 days due to the pandemic. I bought the Vredestein Hypertrac all season 225/50 R-16 92W tires instead. These tires will be installed on Wednesday morning. Since Tire Rack's warehouse is in New Castle, Delaware which is only about 20 minutes from my house; I pick up my tires and get $40 back. Tire Rack has become my tire store. I have the local Firestone shop install the tires. It works for me. I'll see how good (or bad) the Vredesteins are and report it here in about 4-5 years. The reason that I did not go with the Firestone Firehawk tires was the Tire Rack's writeups about their poor rating in the snow.

Vredesteins are excellent quality tires in my opinion. We've had a set of their Giugiaro designed winter tires on our BMW for a couple of winters. They're the nicest snow tires I've driven on.

Hopefully you'll report back sooner than that!

As I said I'm pleased with mine. My dad also has them on his Jag XF which I drive regularly (19"). Very quiet and compliant. It's his second set. First ones lasted well.

Have done about 3K miles so far with a set of these on a Land Rover LR3. Haven't been able to do snow driving with them but they are quiet and smooth in the dry and excellent in rain. I put a set of Kuhmo's on the SVX shortly before our last Reading Meet and they're not bad, but in hindsight I wish I'd gotten the Vreds instead.

I have the Kumho Ecsta 4X II KU22 on my polo. Sidewalls are a bit on the soft side but I have no complaints on the ride or handling

I went to the Kuhmo web site and looked up the Ecsta 4X II KU22 tire. They do not seem to have the size for the SVX anymore for this tire.
