Question Remote mounted turbos...

My buddy told me about these a month or so...

Remote turbo company

The website was interesting, a good bit of it was mistated or taken out of context, their comparison graph was not specific to the remote mounted application and the glowing turbo was likley running on an engine stand at WOT for a good while, never the less, in the tight SVX engine compartment I found this interesting.

These are old news. No offense, running the intercooler piping would be a PITA not to mention oil/coolant feeds as well. I also think an exhayst system loses too much velocity going that far that the turbo would not be able to function properly

It's not a good thing if your turbos and hot parts aren't glowing red.

turbos work due to exhaust gas flow and heat. Without the heat, they are functioning on flow alone. when this far back on the exhaust system, the flow is significantly decreased thus not allowing for a larger turbo to work. A turbo too small will also merely be a restriction.

I agree. They do make good power numbers, and people don't like them just because they're not "proper" turbo setups.

Very true, the turbos are normally sized smaller than their "proper" front-mounted counterparts.

with that said, it will be hard to get the turbo to flow higher cfms and with such a larger piping system, keeping boost up is gonna be a killer. MUCH better off with a conventional front mounted system.

Tom, drive one before you judge. Jose has done 4 of these installs and they seem to be fine. I think picking out the right components is the main part of it.

Absolutely I agree with the above.

I would assume throttle response would be a major downfall of this kind of setup with the length of plenum you have to run.

I would also assume this setup would be for the bigger displacement motors (ie 3.0 liters and up) as exhaust flow is key.

My .02 cents.
