an April event with potential:

Early notice; give some thought to assembling a bunch of SVX's for the MG Car Club "Tulip Rally". I've done this rally before and it's just plain fun! No previous rally experience necessary. As the website says, bring a navigator, a picnic and a camera and expect an enjoyable drive!

Thanks for posting this Jim. No one can give any excuses that they didn't get notice!

So, will it be on the same weekend of the month? If so, it'll be the same weekend as Reading IV. We should try to get meets going all over the world, on the same weekend (April 12/13 '03)

The tulips are pretty, think they'll mind if we drive into the middle of the field to pose the cars for a pic?

My cousin has done this event in the past with her Land Rover (they have a pretty tight club with those) and has many pics of her Rover with the tulip fields in the background and/or foreground. It is just a matter of positioning your vehicle for the right picture I guess.

Sorry. When I went to the MGCC 2003 calendar, it indeed shows the 2003 Tulip Rally on April 12 but somehow I captured the link to last years event. This link should give you the 2003 info:

You and your navigator? Has anyone claimed our svxless member yet? Or will the repairs be done by then?

Unknown on the repairs, If i were to get my tax return back quickly, maybe. But the 5 speed option is looking more and more cost effective for the future.

So for those of us that have never done one of these rally type things, what exactly does the navigator do? I realize it may be different and more important in other types, but in this one specifically? Just curious since in the past several meets I've gone to with this group, almost everyone comes by themselves. Some of us have spouses, but for others there may need to be some navigator recruitment if it is essential to have a 2nd person in the car.

And does the navigator need to be able to tell their left from their right? That rules out a lot of possibilities.

How about up from down or North from South? Our options are getting smaller!

Click this link & scroll down to "Gimmick Rally".

http://www.goss.com/rrhchap1.htm

The way these things sometimes work is the navigator receives a number of 8.5x11 pages with instructions ("turn left at old red barn; drive 3.7 miles, right at stop sign"). The person in the right seat reads the directions to the driver and helps look for the landmarks. The person in the left seat tries to correctly execute the directions provided by the navigator. At some point, you may both find the directions and the view out the windshield don't match anymore; this is known as being "off course". Then you retrace your route back to the last known point when the directions and your location match, and start again, being careful to figure out where you went wrong. The only requirement is a sense of humor!
