Top Speed Shootout

Reading the articles on JamSVX's web site got me thinking...

I am almost certain that Motor Trend or Car and Driver included an SVX in one of their top speed tests several years back. Does anyone else remember this article? Or happen to know the issue number/date/etc.?

Sorry, Mike. But, just because you read it in a "magazine" doesn't mean it actually happened. I have it on good authority that magazines like R&T and MT and C&D are totally useless for any type of *real* information, so, I'd just give it up -- it ain't real. We've all been brainwashed into thinking that reporters can deliver anything that even vaguely resembles factual information.

(Okay, so sometime I just can't leave things alone -- [slowly slips into flame suit -- or would that be "anti-flame" suit?] )

I didn't say that the SVX won the top speed shoot-out, or that it was clocked at 200 miles per hour, or that it had twin turbos, or a bulletproof Level 10 tranny, or ran on synthetic snake oil, or any of that.

All I'm saying is there WAS an article.

{WHISPERING} Mike, I believe you. Check out the AWS thread, then, you'll understand. -- gosh, that thread was a lot of fun.

Top speed

I would post my top speed story, but no one would belive me. My next problem is that I am NOT willing to do it again. It is not that I am afraid OR worried that I canot do it again. It is that I am fairly convinced that after a couple of pegged speedometer back country road stuipd runs is what caused me to have to replace a very expensive tranny for the second time. I do not wish to do that again. BUT, I do have two witnesses who was in the car with me when we (or I) accidentally jumped the SVX at 140 MPH. Took 30 minutes on the side of the road for me to find my drivers seat again and the color to return the the faces of my two friends that bounced off the roof of the car. I think fear alone took 5 years off my life that night!

Chris

Chirs...i had mine up to 145 one night coming back from visiting Marquette last year on 43.....Crazy as i was thinking, why not see how fast i can really go, well it had to be night too, but i was rolling stuck on the ground, but as i realized how fast i was going.....as intense as it was it was damn scary. About doing it again, maybe jsut to get a pic of the tach and speedo, but otherwise ill just remember taking it there!!!!

just remember my friend.....

i went 138 and i dont think i will ever go that fast again. just too much can happen at that speed. i usually go around 120-125 on the track so i will just leave it there and not tempt fate again!

I have a really bad photocopy of a road test from here in Australia where the following were compared:

Nissan Skyline R32 GTR
Mitsubishi 3000GT
Mazda RX7
Subaru SVX

A high speed run on a test track in Victoria was also included.

At the moment, the originals of the magazines are packed up (a friend owns them but as soon as I can get the originals, I will scan them in.

Unhappy

I used to cruise at 125 mph, and I have HARDCOPY proof that I was going at least 116 mph. Unfortunately, the proof came from a Highway Patrol officer, and getting it cost me $1000 (plus the jump in insurance) and 2 points to my license.

Pray tell, where did you get clocked? For I too have a red SVX, and from time to time have done the same through Long Beach...

Only 2 points on your license for 116mph? Did you have a "I LOVE COPS" T-shirt on at the time?

Talking

Can't say I've ever got my SVX up that fast...but I can tell none of you ride sportbikes. I regularily hit 150mph+ just riding to work some mornings.

PS - Yes I am an idiot at heart!
