SVX Horse power
How much horse power can it develop. I see the chip and the cat back exhaust, and the fresh air induction and the lighter cam pulleys...

Re: SVX Horse power
The SVX isn't really bolt-on friendly. First of all remember that our engines are getting old and tired all on their own. I doubt many of us are seeing the stock 230 HP anymore. Lighter pulleys make no difference in power, they just let the engine spin up faster (sort of an illusion of increased power). Probably the single greatest difference in power is going to come from an aftermarket set of cams.
I would bet that most SVXii these days will dyno between 155 and 165 AWHP (compare to a brand new 230HP WRX that dynos around 175 AWHP). With cams, a ToMyx style intake, a Stage 2V7 chip with the SR20 injectors and Z32 MAF, decently sized exhaust... You might see 190 at the wheels. So perhaps 250-260 at the crank? A 5-speed transmission might free up a little more, the auto soaks up a lot of power.

for 30hp? good thing these cars look cool. they certainly arent fast |

Re: SVX Horse power
Cams are around $1000, I believe the full 2V7 setup is also over $1000 once you've got the injectors and MAF, and another $1000 for an exhaust system. So figure $3000-3500, or about $100/HP.

But I think the HP gain has to be higher than 30HP. Wasn't there a guy in Germany that got his modestly upgraded NA SVX up to about 172MPH? If you assume that the stock top speed is 158MPH and that top speed scales with the square root of HP (I can't recall if that is correct), the HP calculates out to 272.5HP. If stock top speed is 155MPH, the HP calculates out to be 283.2HP. The HP gain is probably closer to 50HP. It makes that engine in CT putting out around 400HP that much more amazing.

Re: SVX Horse power
I'll see your 230 and raise you-- er, nevermind.
Lightweight pulleys are useless with the drivetrain engaged, and don't hold much merit beyond bling otherwise. The moment of intertia is so small that the mass difference is practically inconsequential, and when combined with the transaxle and everything downstream from there, it gets lost in the rotating mass. Buy 'em for show, but leave your performance dollars elsewhere.
