To be honest with you, I'd still buy one. Maybe I have a lot of brand loyalty, but with 3 Toyotas in the family not a single one has left us stranded. Think of the deals they have now!

Shifting into neutral should be something everyone should learn when driving as it is.

agreed! I guess people are just dumb F***s. My 85 Buick I had occasionally would have the gas pedal stick whenever going to about 80% throttle or higher. The first time it happened, it scared the hell out of me but I quickly nailed the brakes, put it in neutral and quickly shut off the engine to prevent any damage. All I had to do was hit the gas pedal a little harder after it stuck to get it unstuck as I figured out.

From what I've heard, the latest story involving the Prius mentioned that he was unable to shift into neutral for some reason. Can't confirm this, just what I heard.

I have to wonder how many of the stories actually involved out of control cars, and how many were "Well I was on my cell and didn't see the traffic stop in front of me, but since there's this big deal going I might as well just blame that!"

Re: anyone that owns a prius or other (recalled toyotas )

A prius won't apply motive force and braking force at the same time, for multiple reasons which include how the regenerative braking system operates and that doing so would cause rapid and severe damage to the inverter.

This is all a scheme by the detroit lobbyists to kick toyota down a peg, since they know their product can't stand on it's own and their reps sure can't back anything up.

17 confirmed failures out of some 8,200,000?

That's a pretty low defect rate.

Re: anyone that owns a prius or other (recalled toyotas )

If I had a Toyo, I would be doing all my highway traveling at WOT. If the cops catch me, just ride the brake and the gas and turn on the panic face

Brake pads are cheaper than a ticket

In terms or reliability, you are absolutely right Tim. But in terms of design, I rate Toyota below 0. They are never consistent in their models' generations.

For example the Corolla model changes dramatically generation after another whereas the Nissan Sunny looks coherent from the mid 90's up until now.

The Camry also changes a lot, as if it is a completely new model each time..

I give you that They do change their models drastically, which opens up new doors for potential new issues.

It seems that Toyota is trying to cater to changing times. First starting out as a cheap econobox, but all the competiton is heading towards sportier, higher hp output with the same gas mileage.

Hahahah seems like a good argument for a Final Destination movie!!

Also i think that every new Toyota should come with a helmet... just in case it suddenly brakes.
