Cool ABS Removal

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Lis...member=1586234

was there ever an SVX made without ABS ???

the above post shows engine bay with ABS removed - here in NZ I believe that constitutes having to require a modification certificate?

Is this Trevor Crowes company ???

Re: ABS Removal

I posted in your other thread too. But the driver's seat looks like its removed. And also, the whole brake system is removed-no master cylinder or brake booster.

It's a right hand drive car so the brake booster is on the other side.

In the picture of the engine bay, you can see the master cylinder cap on the left side of the picture, the right side of the car, where the steering wheel is.

Cool Re: ABS Removal

It is not a low spec model - check out the stereo control on the steering wheel ????

So the only reason to remove ABS is that "Trevor" wanted to take it off road - hence ABS on gravel does not get enough feedback to driver when rallying ???

Cool Re: ABS Removal

From my reading of LTSA/LTNZ site...

The ABS removal and/or airbags removal requires a special vehicle certificate.
Can not get these for normal production cars. Must be a special purpose vehicle or a special .

The repair/replacement (airbags) requires authorised service who has a LTNZ account (web server login).

In the U.S. the 1994 and 1995 "L" models (Front wheel Drive) had Power 4 wheel disc NON-ABS braking system.

If you added the Active Safety Group to the L models, you got AWD and anti-lock brakes.

Did he really want to rally it?
Or was it just a trade in since does have a workshop and cars sale at the same site.
Ive heard alot of guys are not happy with buying cars or parts off crowe sport.

They have a few really neat subarus there.
One is a Legacy ute and the other is the forester engined Justy race car.

Speculating that the car was modified or anything else is missing the point. I replied in the other thread. This car is a basic spec Japanese Version E, and they come with no ABS or cruise as standard. It's not modified.

Steve is correct when he says it is not a low spec car. What you see here is a low as it gets. No ABS, no cruise, no sunroof. When ordering your Version E you could spec it up for a price. If memory serves you could add driver's airbag, sunroof, leather, air purification filter. But even in base spec they had all electrics and aircon, so they were far from poverty spec.

The only unlikeable Japanese spec car [IMO ] was the S3 which came in round 94, same time as the US got the 2wd cars. The interiors had cloth seats, low quality ecsaine on the dash, grey plastic instead of faux wood, and serious items like LSD were deleted. No way would I ever buy one of them, even if I am an SVX fool. Nobody likes them, so they kind of have to give them away or crush them in Japan.

The S4 on the other hand, totally different kettle of fish. Now that's a really nice SVX! I might get me one of those, yet.

Thats intresting. Did NZ get a base spec with ABS? Why I ask is that I did look at a silver 1991 quite a few years ago.
That had ABS but no cruise. It was very basic Compaired to every other SVX I had seen. It kind of put me off getting it.

I Would love to get a S4

Cool Re: ABS Removal

Hairy (Marcus) has an S4 model.

Mine (1995 NZ new - last one sold new in NZ) has ABS, 4WD, sunroof, leather, cruise etc - still very happy with it (had it since 1998) only has 142,000km on the clock.

I would not worry about what options are or are not on the car - any SVX is an crowd puller!!

I recently bought some rear side lights from the USA - they have bulbs in them - here in NZ they are purely reflectors (the JDM also has bulbs fitted).

Marcus's car is a beaut Steve, as is yours dood.

What you say about options is true enough. Even the lowest spec SVX is still a very competent driving car under the skin. That's kind of why I have so many of them. My remark about S3s could be read in relative terms. If you can buy a fully specced car for similar money, then leave the S3 where it is. If the only car you find is an S3 and it's in good nick, buy it, you won't be disappointed.

The lowest optioned SVX from Japan you can imagine has a better gearbox than all the USA SVXes. [dons flame suit ] The main disappointment I have with lower spec cars is the interiors can get tatty with age.

But they are still a luxury interior compared to the bread and butter utilitarian interior of any Impreza.
