Parts compatibility (Legacy 1996-1999)

I wanted to start a thread that could lead to a decent list of parts that you might find in a junk yard in relatively good condition. Since I and many others here maintain both an SVX and a Legacy or Imprezza we should be able to come up with a pretty good list.

1. Crank pulley
2. Door latches
3. Brake fluid reservoir cap
4. Oil cap
5. Air box & filter
6. Fuel filter
7. Alternator terminal boot
8. Rear wiper arm (TBD)
9. Battery hold down (TBD)
10. Power steering pump pulley
11. Timing belt idler (TBD)
12. Timing belt tensioner pulley/bolt (TBD)

1. Crank pulley
2. Door latches
3. Brake fluid reservoir cap
4. Oil cap
5. Air box & filter my 97 Leg 2.2 uses a different filter
6. Fuel filter
7. Alternator terminal boot
8. Rear wiper arm (TBD)
9. Battery hold down (TBD)
10. Power steering pump pulley
11. Timing belt idler SVX will work on Legacy, but Legacy won't work on SVX
12. Timing belt tensioner, good for Legacy's up to 97
13. MAF, Leg will work on the SVX but you lose some of the top end.

Re: Parts compatibility (Legacy 1996-1999)

14. Alternator
15. Starter
16. Timing belt tensioner
17. Knock sensors
18. Oil pump
19. Fusible links
20. Fuses (duh)
21: ABS sensors, possibily the ABS pump

I would venture to guess that the Lego-Imp Power steering pump would work as well. The mounts are the same.

Timing pulleys and gears for the EJs are shorter than the EGs. They will work in a pinch, but the timing belt is the same width as the pulleys and gears so there is no margin for belt travel.

The radiator and fans look promising, ABS pump - no way, PS Pump maybe. If someone
with a lot of mechanical experience could ditch some of those TBD's I'd appreciate it.

The alternator is different, the electrical connectors match and you can mount it in place, but the mounting tabs are cast in a different position and the pulley won't line up with the others.

Re: Parts compatibility (Legacy 1996-1999)

The knock sensors from the 1st gen legacy 2.2 are identical. The power steering pump is not interchangeable on the LS-L and LSi models as it is electronic vairable assist. I doubt the L and LS model pump is identical to any other, either. The starter is also SVX only. Many of the solenoids are the same, such as the purge control solenoid and I also believe some of the EGR components are the same. The fuel filter is interchangeable. A good way to tell is to look at the part numbers. a part with a "PA" in the middle is going to be either SVX only or designed for the SVX and then used for something else later. A part with AA in the middle is usually a common part. I forget the others but I think the impreza is "GA"

Re: Parts compatibility (Legacy 1996-1999)

I was doing rear brakes on my 97 Legacy this weekend. The caliper pin on the L side was seized and before I ran to the parts store, I decided to take a look on my shelves of SVX parts. To my delight the rear caliper and mounting bracket are identical
