98 2.5rs impreza, worth it?

so i found the above car on craigslist, the guy said it runs and drives fine, but the front end has damage, enough to make it not street legal he said. im wondering if it would be worth getting and fixing? 150k miles, he said it has a new clutch as of 6 months ago.

so what would this be worth? he has 2 other cars, a 90 legacy with over 300k miles, and a hyndai sonata. i was thinking i could work a deal with him to get 2 or maybe all 3 cars for my svx, all the cars are either beat up, or need some work. i could then turn around, sell the other 2 cars and put that towards the impreza.

also, both the impreza and legacy have 5 speeds, would either of these work in the svx?? 90 legacy and 98 impreza

let me know any input on this car. he is sending me pics, so ill post up once i get them. thanks for any help!!

I'm no mechanic, but that looks pretty messed up to me.

Re: 98 2.5rs impreza, worth it?

The trans would work.

That isn't a 2.5RS though.

Looks more like a Brighton/1.8L.

Deffinetly not an RS hood or rims.

It's junk. Just by looking at the pics you can tell 1 or both of the frame rails are bent.

Re: 98 2.5rs impreza, worth it?

sorry, your right, not a 2.5 rs. i didnt pay attention to the pics and the guy told me a 2.5 rs. the damage kinda pulled my attention away from everything else haha. he did say that it has some upgrades, like rear antilock or disc brakes, one of the two, probably disc. also a couple other things i cant really recall.

anyone have an estimate on costs to repair this? minus paint and anything i can do myself like put body panels on and hood, etc.

Re: 98 2.5rs impreza, worth it?

definitely frame is toast, engine too probably broke the crank pulley etc. I have seen a lot of front hits on subarus, and that is a BIG hit. usually they dont crush in that far. Stay away from that one. usually if the headlights are mia, that is bad sign. this one, no headlights, it was a bad crash to have them be gone.

Re: 98 2.5rs impreza, worth it?

How'd you know? If you look at pic 2 you can see the whole front end is shifted to the right so based on what i've seen at work and what the pics look like i'd definatly say they are tweaked. Plus frame straightening=$$$$$.

Re: 98 2.5rs impreza, worth it?

when a bumper beam is pushed over to the driver side that far, yeah, frame is pushed big time. sway....and push. needs pull and straighten, and then some more........big money and still won't drive straight.

+1

It would be easier to chop the front at the firewall and use a donor front end.

Re: 98 2.5rs impreza, worth it?

its worth whatever crusher gives for it.
not much. don't let the owner profit with your mistake. Turn it down. by the looks of it, the owner has not taken very good care of it. Right front fender in primer, means it was wrecked before this wreck, but this is the wreck that finished its life as a car.

Re: 98 2.5rs impreza, worth it?

well the owner did tell me he got the legacy and the impreza for super cheap, practically for free. so if i was going to look at this deal i was going in knowing he was making a huge profit no matter what.

the legacy sat for 2 years he said before he fixed it but hes driven it for 2 and a half since then. both these cars are in need of fixing so that was definitely a factor.

well im glad i posted on here. thanks for the input guys!
