No Start, No click, big hammer = start

My car wouldn't start the other day and I searched the forums and found a lot of articles on ignition switches and relays but I am not sure if my problem is the same.

The battery is good, alternator is good. I turn the key and it has one shot to start and if it doesn't start on the first or second revolution you can turn the key and nothing happens. No click, just nothing.

So, I pull out the big hammer and give a hit to the solenoid and it will fire right off.

So, I take it that just the starter is bad??? Anybody have the same probs???

Happens all the time... Solenoid goes bad or contacts get too worn or corroded... Simple fix is to get it rebuilt w/ a new solenoid

That's what I thought. Just hate to hang parts and have it do the same thing. Been there and done that.

This same problem saved my GMC truck from being stolen. On a snowy night thieves broke the window and tried to hot wire it but no go. When I had it repaired the shop called to ask if I had a kill switch. I said the key is a 22oz Estwing.
