Finally getting my baby painted!

Well I am finally going to be taking the plunge and getting my baby painted. The car currently is black over claret. I have decided after much deliberation that I am going to do a color change. Going to be keeping the roof black, however, i am going to have the rest of the car (including the trunk lid and side garnishes) painted an arctic silver metallic. This color is on a variety of porsches, absolutely love that color.

I'll be posting before and after pics when I get a chance.

That should turn out to be a good choice. I like the Silver shades that are available these days. But I think when it's time, I will stay with the Claret to Black. If I get another, then it will probably go to Laguna, or a Silver of sorts.

Re: Finally getting my baby painted!

Shiulude, yeah i've really struggled with keeping it original or going to a different color. I like the claret, in the two tone, but recently its just too dark for me, I like the svx's with clear contrasts, black/white, black/silver, black/red. I've always wanted a silver svx, that's what i originally wanted, but i sort of settled for the claret.

Re: Finally getting my baby painted!

No, i am going to a local body/collison shop in upstate new york (Wurtsboro), Jerry's Collison Center. This guy came highly recommended from a competitor. I found that most collison centers don't do full restorations, apparently restoration jobs aren't as much of profit centers as insurance claims. So I checked this guy out and he had a couple of resto jobs which looked really good, the guy came off geniune (means a lot in my book) and was willing to take the time to do it right...granted I am going to be paying a pretty penny for it. I am requesting a lot, essentially I want this car in showroom condition, remove everything that can be, replace all weatherstripping, the whole nine yards...

Ideally I would have liked to have had some members from the forum here do the job, I know a couple have their own body shops, but it didn't seem as if the would be able to schedule me anytime soon.

Re: Finally getting my baby painted!

Are you going to be painting inside the doors and door jambs? Also what about the engine bay?

Re: Finally getting my baby painted!

Yes, they said they will be addressing all of that, hence the additional $1,000.00 b/c of the color change

I found this out myself not long ago, thus the $9000 quote to paint my car the same color. They just didn't want to do it.

Best of luck to you, color changes scare me.

Re: Finally getting my baby painted!

just a small update, apparently my car is all set to be painted, all the body work has been done and the car is primed and ready for paint. Couple of things I have added are

-I am having the emblem hole on the hood filled in, so there will be only the rear center taillight letting others know what type of car it is. I've seen another svx, maybe the prototype, without the hood emblem and thought it looked pretty good. So if anyone is in need of a OEM emblem let me know, I also have the alcyone one as well.
-I am also having the front license plate bumper holes filled in.
-new weatherstripping
-repainting wiper's
-Not sure if I mentioned it earlier but I am going with the color change to a 2007 Porsche Arctic Silver for the body and leaving the roof black.

I can't wait, I'll be stopping by on Monday to look at the progress and will post some pic's then.

-Chris

How much would you want for the OEM emblem? And just for kicks, how about the other? -Dennis

Re: Finally getting my baby painted!

My son convinced me to have my emblem taken off and the holes filled in before my paint job...it does look sleek, but I personally miss it. There are some pic's in a thread on pearlie pictures.
