This is news to me. I knew the last week or so could not have been enough reason for a ban.

Fair enough.

Re: Trevor has been given a time out.

Why is everyone so concerned with this drama? Two guys clearly disagreed with eachother and abused the rules and guidelines of this forum, hence the ban. It just reminds me that no matter what age people are, this high school crap is a perpetual part of life. I feel as if the majority of the posts lately are concerning this drawn out saga....

That is why we had to get this done and move on before all of the post were about this.

Let's see if we can keep it going for two months. It'll be like he never left.

Re: Trevor has been given a time out.

OK so I still don't understand how you can 'ban' someone, I mean technically. One could always create a new account, so perhaps banned by ip address?....well if someone has as dynamic ip, like most isp's provide, then it can be renewed.

ipconfig/release
ipconfig/renew

So how do you actually ban someone?

Re: Trevor has been given a time out.

Well, creating a new account would be pointless because a well known member would be found out pretty quickly, considering some people's posting habits and IPs. It's especially pointless if it's a temp ban.

There is nothing stopping anyone from reading the forum and there are plenty of other ways to get in contact with people so why even try working around it?

A ban is nothing more than an account lock. You could never totally prevent someone from accessing a public site.

We have the ability to keep people who have been banned from reading the forums. But that's going a bit far.

Yes, yes we could. Not with the forums software mind you, but we could. We could easily ban a users subnet at the router level and that user wouldnt even know the site existed, barring a search. And there are ways of defeating proxies, as well.

Baiting is the act of purposefully instigating a negative response, through whatever means. Also known as pushing someones buttons.

For instance. You know a user loves neons like kids love candy, and you make a post saying, "Neons are the biggest peice of crap ever to drive the face of the earth". Knowing full well you will get a rise out of the person. Otherwise known as trolling.

Ban the subnet at the router level? You mean the 255.255.255.0 address we all have as a subnet? Umm ok thats makes no sense. Would you guys be able to impose a hardware ban, say the physical address of ones nic card? But then you could just get another one right? How could a proxy be "defeated" as you say?

Ever since 2003 every server admin in the entire world of battlefield 1942 has been trying to ban me from not only their server, but place me on the punkbuster master ban list....lol. I ALWAYS find a way to get back on any server any time I want. You can't ever REALLY BAN someone in my opinion. Admins just love to throw that word around all the time......BAN!

The difference is in intentions. There is jest, and there is malice. And yes, they are obviously different.

No, not that subnet. Sure, there can be ways around, but the question lies in how much effort you are willing to put forth to circumvent the ban.
