slightly off topic....are the hid hghs any brighter than the hid low's of the same rating? Would any benifit be seen in doing the 9005 mod to a set of hid bulbs...essentially using HID highs in the low beam spot?

No difference at all. The 9005 and 9006 bulbs have the same brightness (lumens) at 3200 lumens and both use 35W of output power. The ballasts are the same with a 23,000V output to fire the lamps. Even my H3 HID fog lights are rated exactly as their 9005/9006 big brothers.

The amount of lumens (brightness) is dependent on the Kelvin color temperature. I am sure OT will correct me if I am wrong. The 4300K should be a little brighter (and yellower) than the 5000K (rated at 3200 lumens)

Go tho the Lavalux site HERE for more information.

Also see my HID Color Comparison Chart attachment.

If you are looking for a cheap replacement i would suggest the Silverstar Ultras. Just replace the old ones you do not have to worry about ballest or anything like that. You can get them for about 25 a pair on ebay. I have Silverstar Ultras in my SVX and Outback VDC. Good headlights cheap price and easy to install.

John's running the same temperature in the fogs as the lows, correct? Same look he had going with his PIAA's back in the day I think.

The question would be, can you go low enough in temp with HID's to get a really Yellow light for use in the fogs? Something that looks obviously like a fog light and gives the benefit of yellow light for driving in fog/snow.

Is that what some of the Lexuses have that have the really bright yellow fog lights? They are very bright and though they are very yellow, they also have a tinge of blue/white in them that just screams "luxury car".

Re: Headlights

Trying to find a good pair of non-HID fog lamp bulbs, yellow, for the inclement weather I face on Mt Rose. I was checking out a pair of the 70W H3's on Ebay, does anyone have experience putting a slightly higher wattage H3 in their housing without any damage to the wiring or lenses?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nokya...Q5fAccessories

Thanks.

Ah, BTW Apexcone HID kits are now $29.95! Picking up a set of 55W 8000k monday, great price.
