How Much Should I Pay?????????

To have someone install my new PRETTY rotors, pads, and stainless lines? One mechanic said something about it being diffucult because you have to bleed the whole system. Is it a lot of trouble? How much is a fair price to pay for labor? How long should it take? TIA

Im so excited! I cant WAIT to get these on there!

It takes about 3-4 hours for someone doing it their first time. So what is 3-4 hours of labor??

Dont be shocked if theres extra $$ or labor involved. I just put some calipers/rotors/pads on mine and lucky me found wheel bearing grease all over my park brake shoes. no wonder my park brake didnt hold for $%@

I dont mind paying the price as long as its a good job. Should I get him to do the wheel bearings too while hes under there?? Anybody know the wheel bearing numbers and where to get then fast? I do purchasing for a conveyor plant so I deal with a lot of places like that...we use about a million of them!

Tom has a good estimate there with the 3-4 hours. I wouldn't bother with the wheel bearings unless you've had any problems.

If the car's on a lift, this really isn't that bad. I can do mine in my driveway in less than 30 min, and that includes the time to jack all the corners...

i just realized i misspoke. i paid about $400 for parts (pads, rotors, lines) and about $900 for labor, but that included an a/c conversion from the old to the new stuff. i think i was about $1300 all in. i'll have to go dig out my old receipts. i may have trashed everything in my disgust when i traded the car in though.

Three to four hours may be what you get charged but an experienced mechanic can knock it out in less than half the time. Bleeding the whole system is not "difficult" it's just an excuse for them to charge you more.

Of course it all comes down to what you're willing to pay. Plenty of people out there with more money than sense. This is why mechanics get away with most of the stuff they pull.

I understand that , and thanks for all the info I really wanted a round about hour so I can actually know how bad hes trying to jack me. (so I can not let that happen) I have 2 mechanics and am talking to them both about it. One is a good honest mechanic but has never heard of an SVX the other has put bearings in one but is a B $hiter....

Why not drive to Tom's Garage and get it done? What I did was come up with a days worth or stuff. Tom's work and prices are fantastic. Plus it was fun and I learned a lot. Tom really takes pride in his work and loves SVX's.
