Just got my SVX (bought it from Huck)

my car shows on E and the fuel light comes on but i can only pump around 12 gallons.

Is the gauge wrong?

Its a 95 AWD L
with 4.44s
mixed highway and city gettin 220-250 on 12 gallons

Must be. The tank holds 18+ gallons. Apparently most SVX gauges are pessimistic (mine consistently reads two or three gallons lower than actual), but yours seems extreme.

Has it done this at more than one gas pump? If you force it past the automatic click-off, does it overflow?

mine too

My gas gauge is waaay off. When my light comes on I can go at least 35 more miles or so. That's just guessing but I don't even worry when my car light comes on because the hand goes waaay past Empty.

A Subaru dealer told me the gas tank has about 3 gallons of gas left after the warning light goes on. Thats about 30-70 miles give or take city/highway.

I am pretty sure that the manual states around 1.5 gallons is left in the tank once the light comes on...

the light can come on when you still have a 1/4 tank left but it does that when one side is basically dry and just haven't shifted over the hump in the middle.

I drive about 20 miles a day, probably half freeway and I let the tank go to about 1/4 fills up with about 11-12 gals and mileage is usually between 180-200. I go over 50ish percent throttle once every couple of days or so. Sucks balls

Never 'force' or 'top off' a car unless it's earlier than a '70s model (and even that isn't a good idea.) EVAP systems can become flooded and some cars will suffer EVAP component failure.

The manual will indicate less gas is available to prevent you from running out of gas. I've calculated it many times, I fill up with 15 gallons everytime the warning light goes on. 18 minus the 15 equals 3 gallons remaining. This of course may vary from car to car depending if the warning light is working properly.

I'm sure you're right. It wasn't my intention to advocate this practice as a routine, but I think everyone's experienced situations where a pump clicked-off way before the tank was filled (due to nozzle position in the filler neck, or whatever), and in this instance... light on, reading "E" yet only taking 12 gallons... it seemed a reasonable question to ask.

I get ~270 miles to the E line, 290 before the light comes on. Generally 15 gallons to fill up. Premium's no longer available in Alaska.

Bwa ha ha! We don't make fuel. We just drill oil and natural gas.

I just finished a tank and the fuel light was coming and going depending on angle at 317 miles. Filled up with about 15 gallons of bleh... 90...
Didn't use octane booster.
Didn't use it on my last tank either.
Seems to be running smoother and more quietly, though lacking power. No big deal, except for the occasional shudder from what I think is timing retardation. Didn't do that while using the booster.

My engine is being retarded.

Looks like if I had ran it dry that last tank it would have taken me roughly 380 miles.
