Rust and the Solution

Hey Guys,

For many months now, I've had this problem. It's getting worse. Here in Wisconsin, its nearly inevitable, but it's rust.

On both the left and right doors, in the groove created by the door sheet metal fold and the body cladding, there is rust growing. It is growing down the crack from the front to the rear.

What, if any, solutions are there? Worst case senario: new doors. If that's the case, what do a new (used) set of doors go for?

I've got rust in the same spot. I don't think it will be necessary to replace the doors, but depending on the extent of the rust, it may be necessary to fill in the hole with some weld.

If you don't wanna go through the bodywork, get some sand papers, rub the rust off, and with a small painting brush, put some antirust liquid material on the metal, leave it to dry for a couple of days, then get the color of your car and put it over the antirust material...

That's fine if the rust is minimal, but if its extensive enough, either Bondo, or preferably weld filler is needed.

I was giving an opinion related to the pic... the rust doesn't seem very huge.. yeah of course if the rust is extensive, nothing will fix it except a bodyshop...... and Bondo is not good for the long term...

For a longer term fix it would be best to cut out the rust and weld in a new piece, zinc coat it then paint.

I've got rust in the same place...sigh. Must be another unique quality of the SVX.

Maybe some lemon or/and vinegar water and a good scrubbing would help.

When I used to work with iron men, they used a special paint that can be applied right over the rust without scraping or sanding. It would stop the rust process and change it to a solid form. It was used on I-beams. I don't remember the name, but I'm sure if you do a search, you'll find it. Good luck.

I've also had recommendations for fiberglass after sanding away the rust in place of bondo

I believe it's POR 15. From what I hear it's amazing.
